Last March of this year , I was at UC-METC interviewing prospective scholars for IMEC applicants from all over Visayas and Mindanao and as far as Basilan.
Interviewed were graduating HS seniors from Barangay HS and Private schools alike.I was sad that this opportunity did not reached to our talented but financially drained youth.I hate to believe that our school administration officers were not able to learn this scholarship program where other schools in VISMIN AREA have sent talented young and promising captains and chief engineers try their luck for this program. This program will ultimately be the best way for those who are interested to choose to start a career at sea and ultimately alleviate the burden of parents in sending their kids to college.
I hope to see in the future applicants from our province.Please study and excel in the following:
1) Math (Algebra,Trigonometry)
2) Science (Physics)
3) English(must have good English Oral Communication Skill)
4) Abstract Reasoning ( OLSAT or APRO )
5) Vocational trainings in Mechanical and Electronics courses- is a plus ( for those who have graduated already )
6) Most of All,Genuine interest,ambition and willingness to start a life at sea and not INFLUENCE or force to take by parents or anyone.
Next Exams will be on October 2010 or please visit IMEC OFFICE at UC-METC or to the authors' email add.
Successful Applicants will have a 2 + 1 + 1 program after 2 years academic studies at UC they will be sent onboard for 12 months and then come back to UC for another year,right after graduation they will take the BOARD EXAMS and after passing it ,they will join as 3OFF and 4ENG.They will be train as OFFICERS and never as RATINGS.
Please pass this word to our interested youths and school administrators.Please encourage our youth to read and read and read.Be prepared for oral interview with my colleagues from SCOTLAND,ENGLAND,NEW ZEALAND,The reason is all of these mentioned nationalities have different accent.Lots of bright boys from bohol did not passed because of communication barrier.I suggest better watch CNN and BBC.
