The public is supporting the move to limit cockfights to Sundays and holidays only, instead of tolerating cockpit operators to hold it almost everyday.
This was the general reaction aired over dyRD’s top-rated “Tagbilaran-by-Nite†after PNP provincial director Edgardo Ingking issued notice to strictly implement the Sunday/holiday cockfighting executive order of Gov. Erico Aumentado.
The governor is supporting the move of SSupt. Ingking to limit cockfighting.
The governor said cockpit owners have been very abusive in holding cockfights almost everyday.
Complaints from parents and teachers reached the governor’s attention after some students are reportedly skipping classes and are engaged in cockfighting.
The governor said he has not received any complaints from town mayors opposing the enforcement of his order, through SSupt. Ingking.
Owners of cockpits, specifically the Bohol Association of Cockpit Operators, through its president Atty. Alexander Lim, said they will be constrained to file charges against SSupt. Ingking who insists on closing down cockpits that are allowing cockfights from Monday to Saturday.
Lim, who owns the Loay cockers arena, said all cockpits in the province are allowing “special cockfightsâ€. Most of which are covered with a municipal or barangay ordinance, Lim said.
