The lawmaker's offer

Ellen Tordesillas
September 19, 2013

One of the lawmakers implicated in the pork barrel scam operated by Janet Lim Napoles sent feelers to Malacañang about three weeks ago.

The offer: “I will return the money I got from my PDAF fund plus interest. I will make a public apology. I will resign and will not run for elective office again.”

The requested reward: “Please don’t file plunder charges against me.”

Reason for the offer: “One, I want to spare my grandchildren the stigma of having a grandparent convicted of plunder. Two, I am currently ‘down.’ This is not the best time of my life.”

My source declined to identify the lawmaker and the branch of legislature. I can only guess the identity based on the demands: he or she is old enough to have grandchildren and is eligible for election in 2016.

of course, he is remorseful.  but would he have thought of his grandchildren and of how bad his plunder was if he weren't caught?

it was hubris right from the start.

just a speck of the total amount he allegedly got would be enough for my sister's whole chemotherapy treatment (PhP1.7m).  it would probably take me the whole year to raise this amount, if at all.

my sister is a taxpayer who had cried some years back when she realized how unbelievably big her tax deductions are.  she has learned to live with it, but i don't think she can forgive our thieving legislators.

sakita pod uy.

this past year, I paid the US federal government $8,000 worth in taxes, and the state of Illinois $4,000 worth in taxes. Most of my money will go to ... who knows. excessive federal spending is the problem here in the united states.

With that much money in taxes paid, i could have bought myself a small little cute payag in manga, valencia. :'(

Illinois sucks. we are over-taxed in this bankrupted state. in time, i would like to move back to the east coast and practice medicine there.

my colleagues in internal medicine average $235,000 here in chicago. but i have friends who are being salaried back in new jersey starting at $315,000. not including sign on bonus usually around $20,000 - $25,000.

i considered relocating to the south (thought about texas, georgia (only because i have an tito who owns a clinic and wants me to take it over...he's retiring...lol)) anyways, its just too hot over there. i can't do the 115 degree summers !

:P

you will hit it BIG doc. the more you give the more you receive. first, you work to earn money, then you let your money work for you. doctors earn a lot. so in no time at all, you can pay off your loans. then you start saving for capital.

my nephew, the head honcho of a corporation of anesthesiologists in pennsylvania earns over a million dollars a year, easy. he has a money manager, who, i am pretty sure, puts his money in blue chips. because he has no time to put it in penny stocks. when you trade in penny stocks, you have to watch it very closely.  a difference of just one minute will spell a fortune for you or disaster.

bisan usa ka sako pa imong ipohonan ug penny stocks, if you dont know what you are doing, tilapan lang. you will be wiped out. making money , like everything else, is just a skill, which can be learned. give me a thousand dollars, i can make it into a million in only a couple of years. i am an artist with penny stocks.
