Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima is standing pat on her stance against the proposal to revive the
imposition of death penalty law through lethal injection against those convicted of heinous crime.
In a text message, De Lima said that as a human rights advocate she would not agree with the re-imposition of death penalty law .
She added her being the Secretary of Justice would not change her stance against death penalty law.
De Lima also expressed belief the death penalty is not the solution to stop crime.
She said it is sufficient enough to stop the commission of heinous crimes through the serious implementation of existing laws.
De Lima added the
criminal justice system should be enforced without fear of or favor to any influential person.
Calls for the revival of the
death penalty law surfaced after a tourism and hospitality management cum laude graduate of the University of Sto. Tomas, Cyrish Magalang, was allegedly raped and stabbed dead 49 times in Cavite last week.
