Seen as a smart move, administration ally city councilor Danilo Bantugan did not show up in the much awaited face-off with provincial board member Alfonso Damalerio II, during last Friday’s city council joint meeting regarding the controversial city drainage system.
Bantugan earlier delivered a scathing privilege speech against Damalerio’s action in allegedly interfering in affairs that belongs to the city government.
Reports have spread that Bantugan also wanted Damalerio declared as persona non grata.
The councilor-lawyer, however, denied that he initiated such move.
MEDIA BLASTBantugan also went ballistics against dyRD PULSO commentator Roberto “Batchoy†Alba for comments that he did not like, citing texters’ messages read in the program calling Bantugan names and not a native Tagbilaranon. The latest Bantugan-Damalerio rift was noticed by many radio listeners as Bantugan’s show of loyal support to City Mayor Dan Lim who was first to drop his bombshell against the board member in his radio program Mayor’s Report.
Mayor Lim was pique at the alleged “politicking†of Damalerio made at his expense.
Bantugan, who was a protégée of the former three-term city mayor Jose V. Torralba, is now seen as the administration ‘s “Faith Defenderâ€; but which tag he strongly denied.
WORKING MINDSIn last Friday’s meeting of the city council convened as Committee of the Whole, Damalerio, provincial board chairman on environment and Dr. Yul Lopez, provincial board chairman of the committee on health shared their own views in the raging controversy of the city drainage and the disposal of the waste water into the city bay.
Damalerio earlier said he is not in anyway “intimidated†by the tirades of the city mayor and also that of Bantugan that have gone down to gutter language and too personal.
“My intention is to help since it is a concern for all, not only for city officials,†Damalerio said.
