Bohol Chronicle: The Bohol Police will have a new commander starting Tuesday as SSupt. Anthony Obenza replaces SSupt. Edgardo Ingking who will cap his assignment of almost three years here in the province.
Obenza will be installed as provincial commander on Tuesday in turnover ceremonies at the Bohol Police Provincial Office in Camp Dagohoy .
Obenza, recently promoted to senior superintendent, is a Boholano and a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA). He holds a master's degree in public administration.
The new police chief was the choice of Gov. Aumentado from three names presented to him as replacement of Ingking after the latter has been "overstaying" in his post.
Ingking, who served as provincial police director since January 2007, will be promoted to a higher position in the Police Regional Office (PRO-7).
The coming May 2010 elections pushed the PNP into a massive reshuffling of commanders to ensure their impartiality towards candidates.
The governor has been putting on hold Ingking's reassignment as he wanted to pick a Boholano provincial commander. But the recent promotion of Obenza to senior superintendent made him eligible to take over the provincial command.
Prior to being named as new Bohol police chief, Obenza was head of the PRO-7 personnel division.
Tuesday's command turnover will be presided by PRO-7 Regional Director Chief Superintendent Lani-o Nerez and Gov. Aumentado.
During Ingking's stint as provincial director, the provincial command gained so many awards both in the regional and national categories.
He will be remembered for instituting the SWAT force in the province and at the same time enhancing the Tourist Police. He gained the support of the local businessmen's group from whom the local PNP command received donations, including the SWAT service vehicle.
Lately, the Bohol police under Ingking was recognized for topping other police offices in the implementation of the National Firearms Control Program (NFC).
The BPPO accounted for a total of 1,096 firearms in its drive since August to September.
BPPO's total haul is 23 percent of the estimated 4,232 loose firearms from threat groups and criminal elements or those basically un-renewed in the last years.
