DAVAO CITY (Updated) -- A touching photo of a police officer attending to an old beggar with a wound on his head has gone viral in social networking site Facebook as netizens lauded the policeman for his gesture.
Praises came pouring in for PO1 Jessie Romano Mallari of the San Pedro Police Station after a photo of him fixing the bandage around the old man's head outside the San Pedro Cathedral on Sunday was published on the front page of Sun.Star Davao in its March 25 issue. The published photo was also posted on Sun.Star--Philippine News Facebook account.
As of 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, the post has reached more than 11,159 "likes," some 2,463 "shares" and over 1,400 favorable comments.
"A touch of tender-loving-care rests in the hands and heart of an honest cop like this one in the news photo. Even if the injured man felt the pain and humilation of apathy...he felt assured of his safety in the presence of this concerned policeman," netizen Ben Bornia said.
"Galing naman ng mga bagitong pulis ngayon, sana lahat ay may damdaming ganyan," Bibiana Tamayor Ramos posted.
"You have lived up to PNP motto: ‘to serve and protect’ and as a Christian: ‘to care for the least of our brethrens.’ May God bless and keep you!" Noe Villagonzalo said.
Another netizen, Ruby Roble, said: "Proud Davawenyo jud ko labi na ky ing ani mga pulis sa ato! God bless u always mamang pulis at ky tatay din."
Even his friends and relatives were very proud of Mallari.
Althea Siasico said: "Nice one Jessie Mallari, actually he is a nurse and a policeman now!"
"Thanks for the positive comments. Actually he is my cousin Jessie Mallari. A San Pedro College graduate. A registered nurse. I’m so proud to a have nurse-police cousin!!! Keep it up!!!" Pael Dajao commented.
Sun.Star Davao photographer Seth delos Reyes was at the vicinity of the San Pedro Cathedral taking photos during the Palm Sunday mass when he spotted Mallari attending to the old man. He quickly snapped a shot, capturing the moment without Mallari knowing it.
Mallari commented on the FB post: "Sir Seth, d ko po nabantayan na kinunan ninyo po ako. but I thank u sir, kc kahit papano pagod namin sa trabaho nawawala ng biglaan.. Nakakalimutan ung sakit at stress becuz of people like you. kau po ung nagpapalakas samin at nagpapatuloy na mag inspire samin na magtrabaho day in and day out."
