This mystery man had no income but
managed to amass at least P300 million in five years, including a P25-million unit in a swank condominium building in Taguig City and a P2-million sport utility vehicle.
At the resumption Thursday of the Senate inquiry into corruption in the Armed Forces, the spotlight briefly shifted from former military comptroller Jacinto Ligot to Edgardo Yambao, a brother of his wife Erlinda.
“He’s a mysterious person,†said Sen. Franklin Drilon, who presented documents showing that Yambao had accumulated vast wealth in a brief period.
Yambao, like Erlinda Ligot, skipped the Senate blue ribbon committee’s hearing on the controversial plea bargain between state prosecutors and Carlos Garcia, Ligot’s successor as military comptroller.
Senate security tried to serve a subpoena on Yambao but could not locate him. Erlinda Ligot has been confined at Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City since Tuesday because of headaches and abdominal pain, among others.
Ligot, along with his wife Erlinda, children Paulo, Riza and Miguel, sister Miguela Ligot-Paragas, and Yambao, is facing a P135.2-million forfeiture case at the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court.
