Radio blocktimer plows into a group of teenagers killing one victim
The long holidays may be a boon under the principle of economics of scale but it can be a bane to the unsuspecting.
This was found out quite belatedly by a radio blocktimer selling on the air energy drinks who was incarcerated because a case cannot be filed against him owing to the long holidays.
Known in the airlanes as "Chairman Mao", Engr. Maurito Lim, a retired executive of the National Power Corp. and now dabbling as a radio blocktimer was imprisoned after his Isuzu Crosswind plowed into a group of teenagers along the roadside in barangay Cantumukad, Loon town Thursday evening.
Interviewed yesterday to get his side of the story, Engr. Lim said the unfortunate event was purely accidental.
Admitting that "he was a little bit tipsy", he said he fell asleep while negotiating the quite Loon highway not noticing the bystanders nearby.
At the same time, Engr. Lim corrected "erroneous" news reports that the vehicle he was driving suffered massive damages as a result of the accident. He said the car only suffered slight damages.
Initial investigation showed that Lim was on the way to this city after attending All Saints Day activities in Buenavista town,
According to PO1 Alexander Nunez, traffic investigator of the Loon police station, charges of homicide through reckless imprudence are being readied as early as Friday morning but since it was a holiday the case cannot be filed. Two more non-working days (Saturday and Sunday) aggravated Lim's ordeal. Lim is also facing two counts of attempted homicide arising from the injury of the two victims.
