National Democratic Front (NDF)-Central Visayas is claiming that big-time projects in Bohol may also be tainted by the same overpricing anomalies as the scuttled ZTE National Broadband Network.

That's why despite the gathering political tempest in Manila and other major cities, there is a funeral silence in Bohol.

Are Boholanos really just apolitical, being far from the political epicenter? Or are there big-time beneficiaries in the administration projects here, as claimed by NDF?

Here's the report:

"Equally mind-boggling are the corruption-riddled mega-projects in Bohol under Governor Erico Aumentado's administration, including the controversial 'cost over-run' of the [Bohol Irrigation Project] 2 dam project -- originally priced at only P2 billion -- in San Miguel town," it added.

The NDF-CV noted that Romulo Neri was replaced as National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) chief on August 16, 2007, after he refused to endorse an additional P1.2-billion "cost over-run" in the ongoing BHIP 2 project in Bohol, which formed part of last year's approved P36-billion "cost over-runs" of over 20 GMA projects all over the country.

"Before being unceremoniously transferred to [the Commission on Higher Education], Neri was quoted in public as saying that the BHIP-2 project is 'the most expensive dam in the country,’" the statement added.

The rebel statement also recalled that in a comment he made on the project, Neri said "it's like they were authorized to buy a Toyota car and they bought a BMW."
