Bohol Chronicle vs Mayor Dan Neri Lim: The War Begins
« on: October 16, 2008, 11:13:21 PM »
The furious exchange between the Bohol Chronicle and Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Lim monopolized the airlanes the last couple of weeks. It was a spirited exchange, to put it diplomatically, enough to generate unusual interest.

It is shaping to be a no-holds barred exchange, something that reminds us of that battle-cry about taking no prisoners. Just thinking that it is only the beginning makes people realize they can expect so much more in succeeding fireworks.

Those watching in the sidelines cannot miss the fact that this is a battle-royale.

On one side you have the most venerable media institution in Bohol. On the other is the most outspoken mayor Tagbilaran ever had.

Both are putting their credibility on the line in this exchange. If the Chronicle succeeds in doing what it does best - which is to bring down an incumbent elective official - then Lim should be singing his swan song in public service.

On the other hand, if Lim comes out in one piece notwithstanding the relentless attacks, then he will be able to accomplish what no other politician ever did - which is to survive the Chronicle.

In the course of their exchange, both sides are prone to excesses and shortcomings. That is what we want to warn them both. Lim should not mistake the forest for the trees. In going after the Chronicle, he should not be going after the media.

On the other hand, in standing up to the hizzoner, the Chronicle should not commit the mistake of blowing its own horn at the expense of other media organizations. This should come as a stern reminder given the unflattering references it loves to give to other newspapers as though it was a saint in a sinner's world.

All signs point to a war without borders. The lines have been blurred and the grey areas seem to grow by the day. While others may cry foul over indiscretions, it seems like no one is listening.

It is getting hot, but that should come as no surprise. The Chronicle in fact taunted Lim to "bring it on", something that the mayor just might do. In a war without borders, it just might get what it is asking for. - Editorial, Bohol Sunday Post

Grazie you can log into the bohol chronicle website at anytime and read up with what is going on as well as Bantay Balita, The Bohol Standard, Bohol Times and the Sunday post which are published on a weekly basis.

The gruff between the two is that Mark Monton assistant to the city mayor told me at the new Duncan Donuts that Chronicle is not in the position to tell the mayor what to do regarding the CPG ave drainage sittuations.

In a minute I will post a new topic regarding the challenge thrown out by the mayor this morning during "The Mayor's Report" hearn now every Saturday on DYTR AM which is also hosting now a web sight if your interested in catching up with the latest day to day info regarding happenings around Tagbilaran /Bohol.

The AM Radio hosting barangay patrol Mon-Fri weekly with Mayor Lim and Ted Ayeng who is a creditable and very reputable news media man.
is also now AM radio manager for the AM side, and Carlito Responte is GM over all for both 911FM and DYTR AM.

Thanks, Precious.  I know I could easily check it through the website but I was lazy at that time because it was almost midnight already.  Anyway, Mike gave the link of a thread here that featured that controversial editorial last Sunday.

Grazie my friend try t log into the live website of the AM radyo of dyrd. If they read certain texts or emails and it has to do with a foreigner or filipino being a victim or dieing here or being killed 9 out of ten times it can be known to be read abruptly then suddenly cutt short.

For example a today relatives in Cebu found out that they're relative died at Corrolandia resort my news paper TBS came out with the news of the happening even made it part of the front page.

The news anchor reading the text does not even try to mae phone calls regarding the matter.
What does that tell you?

It is their right to say and do what they want, and it works to the advantage of the media outlet owner as he is chairman on provisional tourism and has a massage clinic and a international travel business.

Today there was a closed door meeting and media was not allowed but how conveinyant to be the tourism board, chairman and president of this outlet and be at an unfair advantage to other media outlets.

Maybe with the controversy with mayr Lim and the chronicle this was a chane for Lim to make amends as the news against Mayor Lim was hush over the radio during the meeting with Governor/Lim.

Maybe it was kiss and make up time and then we have Mr. Gvernor who use to write for the Chronicle outlet bet me this wa closed to media to protect personal inerset of the parties involved in the war zone between mayor of tagbilaran and the chronicle outlet.

The war between the DYRD / Chronicle and City Mayor Dan Lim has more than meets the eye.

For one, it's a chicken and egg thing. I may have began when the Chronilce taunted the city mayor to do something about the drainage system that has not been that functioning as planned. On the other hand, the city mayor has been telling city residents that in no way can the Chronicle biased media bully him into opening the plugged outfall sans any nod from the proper authorities.

It was just that every rainy day, Chronicle would send all hands to the flooded homes along CPG, intentionally report on the nasty condition, and i bet, including items a reporter should not mention for courtesy of those taking their breakfasts. But the Chronicle can do that.

After DENR Sec. Lito Atienza issued a statement about the city residents not to be allowed to suffer from mistakes committed by whosoever, Dan Lim has to accede and unplug the outfall.

Now since the Chronicle has unilaterally declared war, it has to make the mayor unpopular.

So the day the drainage was opened, Chronicle reporters literally run to the water egress along Graham Street, called Atty. Dela Serna and instigated the old man to open his mouth and  let the city residents another spillage of the classic topnotch rhetorics.

But it was not as grim as what Chronicle reported.

And then just as magically, the media, now associated with the Chronicle literally pulled every trick they had to drown Lim with ant blame they can conceive for dirtying the city seas.

And the blame magically focused on Lim, not on to rhe DENR Sec which the local DENR also appeared to hmmm, ...very convenient indeed.

So the war rages and the residents who were saved from countless nigfhts of sleeping in  water beds now have to put up the signs along DBP.

Not one of these were reported.

Now, which side is right, i would rather say, in a war like this, it is not to determine which is right, it would soon be telling us, who would be left.

thanks, apothecary, for seemingly unbiased accounting of what's going on between the Bohol Chronicle and Mayor Dan Lim.
