News Release: 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟯𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀-𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴
On the 2nd day of the Meeting, consultations with three (3) Dialogue Partners particularly the Australian Border Force, Korea Customs Service, and Japan Customs and the two (2) Private Sectors. the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) and the EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC), and with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) were conducted throughout the day.
Over the last years, the relationship and cooperation between ASEAN and its Dialogue Partners and the Private Sectors progressed significantly through general sharing of best practices, information sharing in enforcement, risk management, technological and operational capacities. The annual Meeting is also as an avenue for the ASEAN DGs of Customs Meeting and its stakeholders to open discussions on the emerging trends in customs including regional and international issues.
The following consultations were conducted:
1) 5th ASEAN-Australian Customs Consultation co-chaired by Singapore Director General Ho Chee Pong and Australian Border Force Deputy Commissioner Justin Saunders
2) 17th ASEAN-ROK Customs Consultation co-chaired by Cambodia Deputy Director General Se Sokhorn and Korea Customs Service Director General Joo Si-Kyoung.
3) 23rd ASEAN-Japan Customs Consultation co-chaired by Thailand Principal Advisor of Customs Control Chaiyut Kamkun and Japan Customs Deputy Director General Genshin Hideaki.
4) Consultation with the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) represented by Ambassador Michael Michalak, Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director of US-ABC
5) Consultation with the EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) represented by Chris Humphrey, Executive Director of EU-ABC
Moreover, a Joint Media Statement will be issued by the ASEAN Directors-General at the end of conference on June 10 covering the results of the work progress reported by the respective working groups and committees, guidance provision and business solutions raised by the dialogue partners and private sectors during the 3-day virtual conference.
