The other day, Salceda said in his Independence Day speech at the provincial hall in Legazpi City: “Let us boycott “Made in China” products. Let us hurt them where it counts.”

By not buying Chinese, the former economic adviser to the Arroyo administration said, “we also protect our children and communities from the pervasive and persistent risks of various types of contamination and poor quality of their products.”

Salceda stressed the need to get back at China through trade, saying it had become the only viable alternative for ordinary Filipinos.

He maintained that he was “not against the Chinese people who are here in our country, but I am against imported Chinese products.”

According to Salceda, “the risks of a China boycott are reasonable and affordable when compared to the costs to national well-being of other options, or of doing nothing.”

“Sure, it will not bring mighty China to its knees but it would make it loud and clear to the imperial mandarins of Beijing that all Filipinos are united in their sentiment: Enough of the bullying that tramples upon our dignity as a nation,” he added.

This is all we can do: not buying anything made in China. Since can't put up a war, we will make our case in every Sari-sari store in the Philippines.

MANILA -- Senator Ralph Recto, chairman of the Senate committee on ways and means, said the Philippines should intensify trade with China instead of boycotting its goods.

“The right response is to increase our trade and investments with China and perhaps, maybe with the right growth formula, we can get even economically years from now,” he said in a press statement Tuesday.

He said with China's economy second only the United States, a trade boycott against our "biggest trading neighbor" is "foolish and ill-advised."

Recto, a former National Economic Development Authority chief, said the Philippines could score a better economic victory by closing the trade deficit with China. In 2010, China imported around $6 billion in goods from the Philippines against $7 billion in Chinese goods that entered the Philippines.

“We should not only engage China diplomatically but also through business,” he said. -- http://www.sunstar.com.ph/

angay ba natong i-boycott ang mga produkto sa china?  dili.

1.  wa epek.  the philippine market won't matter much because that country has the whole world as its market.

2.  my experience karong panahona:  bisag u.s. products akong paliton, chances are made in china gihapon.  u.s. tuod ang manufacturing company, pero ang labor china gihapon.  it is the world's factory, from the tourist souvenir of the knights of the round table in king arthur's court in england to venetian lace.  there's no escaping "made in china".

3.  barato ang gikan sa china, di malalis tungod kay barato ang ilang labor cost.  di ko mosukol ug palit ug barbie doll nga made in the u.s. kay four figures ang presyo.  ang made in china 98 pesos ra, makapalit pa kog 10 ka buok for our little girl nga di ko hapdosan kay iyang gipamotlan tanan ug buhok.

4.  gapasiklab ra nang gobernadora.  may puruhan nga ang iyang electric fans made in china.

Gusto unta ko nga iboycott para mahatagan pud ug atensiyon ang mga alternative/ substitute products nga made in the Philippines.

May laptop nga made in the Philippines. May cellphone na pud nga made in the Philippines. Wa lamang tay mansanas nga made in the Philippines. Hehehe.

Ultimong isda ra ba ginaimport sa Pilipinas, hasta nokus, puro gikan China. Murag naa na sa open trade agreement with China and Philippines naakip. Mao nang kung ako pangutan-on, gusto ko naay boycott sa mga made in China products.
