THE waterworks systems of Ubay and San Miguel towns will use the Korean high-tech filtration system which can produce potable drinking water of international standard for their residents.

This was bared yesterday by Rep. Erico Aumentado (2nd District, Bohol), who helped the towns in securing their inclusion under President Aquino’s Water for Waterless Municipalities program where the Department of Health (DoH) will provide ₱9 million and the local government unit, ₱1 million as counterpart. The solon provides ₱500,000 support for the LGU counterpart.

Aumentado’s revelation came after the presentation by Dr. Kyu Yang Choi, president, and Young Whan Choi, director, of Tae Young Engineering Co., Ltd. and Yung Qu Park of the double stage PCF filter process before the joint meeting of the officials of LGU Ubay led by Mayor Eutiquio Bernales and Vice Mayor Constantino Reyes, on one hand, and the Ubay Waterworks System Cooperative (Uwasco) board of directors with the congressman last Thursday at the Ubay Mayor’s Conference Room.

LGU Ubay and Uwasco officials led by Vice Chair Quito del Valle and Manager Saturnino Pilayre have decided to engage the Tae Young Engineering Co. Ltd. and Park to install the double stage PCF filter process costing ₱14.6 million which could produce 2,250 cubic meters of water per day for the Ubay waterworks system.

Uwasco will provide the ₱4.6 million for the project through a loan from Land Bank of the Philippines in addition to the ₱10 million provided by DOH, LGU-Ubay and Aumentado together.

The plan of the parties after the Korean filtration process will be installed successfully is to extend the present pipelines to all barangays in Ubay without waterworks system yet.

Earlier on, Mayor Claudio Bonior with the support of the Sangguniang Bayan presided by Vice Mayor Jonathan “Dodo” Reyes entered into an agreement with Park for the installation of the Korean filtration process for the San Miguel Waterworks System source at the Bayongan Dam for the town’s waterworks system costing about ₱10 million including the civil works for the pipes to be installed for barangays Bayongan, San Vicente and Poblacion as initial beneficiaries.
