Talibon, Boho - Inmates at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) can now convert their idle time behind the bars into an alternative means of livelihood after attending training sessions on candle-making on September 3 to 22 right held at the BJMP compound.

At least 17 attended the skills training the local government unit and the BJMP initiated with the assistance of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda)-Bohol.

The training was designed to give livelihood to the inmates while they were inside the prison cells.

The LGU allocated an amount for the activity from the fund purposely set aside for its manpower development program.

Upon the request of the inmates, Mayor Juanario Item allocated P10,000 for the activity.

With the budget, the activity's coordinators purchased training materials and set aside an amount for the honorarium of the instructor.

Roldano Munalem, designated community training and employment coordinator (CTEC) recruited and organized the interested prisoners to undergo the training.

With the approval of District Jail Warden Josephus Jelianggao, they proceeded with the training.

The CTEC arranged with Alturas Supermarket in this town to serve as ready market for the finished products of the inmates.

On the other hand, 13 municipal local employees attend the on-going training on data encoding at the San Jose National High School Computer Room starting August 4 and will end on September 29.

The training is in line with the LGU's thrust to enhance skills development among its employees. Richard Saldo was the trainer for candle-making, while Dr. Restilou Artiaga was the trainer for data encoding.
