ILO eyes improving lives of Talibon folks
Talibon, Bohol - International Labor Organization (ILO) representatives have paid a courtesy call on Talibon Mayor Restituto B. Auxtero regarding the seaweed identification of people’s organizations (Pos) for funding in coordination with ILO.
The ILO representatives wanted to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues.
Bohol has been identified for rehabilitation since the onslaught of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake and the passing of storm Haiyan (Yolanda). Talibon was listed as one of the possible recipients of ILO’s financial aid if POs can be identified properly.
Talibon POs have been formed and some were registered already with DOLE, which is one of the requirements of ILO. The only challenge is that ILO required groups of 100 or more so LGU Talibon needs to restructure the groups to meet the requirements.
If pushed through, ILO will fully support the project proposals that the Pos would identify and submit, and this includes the payment of materials and those of trainers and financial assistance for PO members.
ILO’s visit was assisted by Jerry Macadine and Engr. Solatar, who were accompanied by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources official, Ghenee I. Mayol. (ellenmarieobuno)
