Post by: Ligalig-Mike on June 17, 2007, 05:45:34 PM
The alarming rise in cases of dengue here in the city could be twice as high compared to last year's.

This was bared by City Health Officer Dr. Antonio Porticos during an interview with the Chronicle yesterday citing three fatalities since January this year out of the 99 reported cases of dengue fever (hemorrhagic fever) cases.

The City Health Office (CHO) has recorded over 100 cases of dengue in 2006 which is low compared to the reported cases from January to June this year.

Barangay Booy presently have the highest incidence as shown by hospital admittances being monitored by the CHO.

Barangay Bool comes next with already one casualty.

The breeding cycle of aedes mosquitoes indicate higher birth rate for this year.

Last Wednesday, City Mayor Dan Lim called on barangay officials and residents to undertake measures to clean-up their surroundings.

"Breeding places of dengue-carrier mosquitoes must be cleaned up," he said, as cleanliness and sanitation is the best way to prevent and control the spread of the deadly mosquito

Porticos said the CHO has been distributing Abate and PH-1, chemicals being dispensed in clear stagnant water where dengue mosquitoes breed. (The Bohol Chronicle, June 17, 2007)
