Title: Sandugo 2007 eyes local flavor
Post by: Ligalig-Mike on June 03, 2007, 09:41:39 PM
After showcasing the Street dancing Champions of renowned Visayas festivals for two consecutive years, Sandugo 2007 is centered back on the participation of local community. This was bared by Loreto Palapos, executive director of Bohol Sandugo Foundation, Inc. (BSFI).

"On its 19th year, it is about time Sandugo steps out from the shadow of other provinces' festivals by placing Boholano ingenuity as focus of the celebration, particularly in the Street dancing," Palapos added.

Contingents from festivals' Basakanon (Cebu City), Hambabalud (Oriental Negros), Dinagyang (Iloilo City), Masskara (Bacolod City), Ati-atihan (Aklan), and Sinanduloy (Tangub City) were last year's guest performers. Only DCPNHS and LGU of Panglao served as local counterparts.

This year, Street dancing participants will come from LGUs, public and private schools, national and provincial government offices, business firms and establishments, families and clans, civic-socio-religious clubs and organizations in a non-contest setting.

Considering the substantial exposure the event can offer, a number of entries are expected.

The Sandugo festivity kicks off on July 1 with the Tagbilaran City Charter Day and culminates on July 22 with the Bohol Charter Day.

Free-of-charge cultural presentations, musical concerts, and variety shows, sponsored by public and private institutions/firms in the city, will be staged at the City Tourist Port nightly.

Again featured are the trade-fair marketing quality arts and crafts, agri-fair displaying locally produced agricultural products, and food fair serving delectable dishes.

Boholano exhibitors are given priority.

Immediately after the Street dancing on July 22, repeat performance of the Sandugo reenactment directed and choreographed by highly acclaimed artist, Lutgardo Labad, is also to look forward to. This was due to insistent public demand.

Spearheading the preparation is City Mayor Dan Neri Lim, BSFI chairman.

BSFI Secretariat can be reached through Tel Nos 411-3720, 235-5567, and 501-3720 for inquiries. (Bohol Chronicle)
