By Junessa O. RequeronThe weekly round of “La Bailar†Ballroom Dancing competition continues today at 4:00 o’ clock this afternoon at the Activity Center of the Island City Mall, as participating ballroom dancers will perform the samba.
“La Bailar†is open to all professional (professional dancers or dance instructors) and sub-professional (tertiary and high school) ballroom dancers in the province of Bohol.
Only canned music tape or CD is permitted during the competition and no live accompaniment is allowed. Performance should not be less than (3) minutes and not more than (5) minutes.
Criteria for judging includes performance or the precision, coordination, synchronization, showmanship and execution of the dance moves which is 40%; choreography or the use of steps/variations, fluidity, lifting and floor pattern which is 30%; costume, its creativity, artistry and relevance to the theme- 20%; and lastly audience impact which will be 10%.
The contestants will perform the different ballroom dancing categories every Sunday prior to the grand finals. For September 9, they would do the Tango, followed by Jive on September 16. September 23 would be for Rumba, while September 30, would be for Samba. October 7 would be Cha-cha, October 14 would be Swing and October 21 would be for Boogie. The grand finals which will be on October 28 2007 at 4:00 in the afternoon will cover dances like jive, cha-cha, foxtrot and tango.
