By Kit BagaipoFor the third year in a row, school children enrolled in the city's 16 public elementary schools will get free uniforms, shoes, bags, notebooks, paper, pencils and crayons as promised by City Mayor Dan Lim.
This school year, however, the mayor has added umbrellas and raincoats in the freebies list to some 9,000 grade school pupils in all 15 barangays of Tagbilaran City.
The city mayor announced during his weekly "Mayor's Report" over station dyRD yesterday that distribution of school supplies will start next week.
Mayor Lim said, this is the city government's commitment to ease the burden ofparents who are hard-pressed of sending their kids to school.
"Many kids, of school age, have not received such consideration nor have the benefit of feeling what it is like to wear a new pair of shoes or new school uniform," he said, "but the city government has ensured that support is provided to the city's basic education."
Providing a strong foundation, in basic education, has been "a matter of priority" of the mayor even during his first three years in office.
Proof of this is the adoption of the multiple intelligence system in the city's day care centers as a starting point of improving the quality of instruction in the city's public schools.
