The 10th Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) led by new City Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso will hold its first regular session today (July 4, 2007) with 20 out of 23 committees already formed.

Today's session will mainly resolve chairmanships of three major committees - Appropriation, Commerce and Industry, and Engineering.

The selection of committee memberships was made during a conference of all 12 city councilors Monday night at the Bohol Tropics Resort.

However, selection of chairman and members of the three committees, which were hotly contested was deferred subject to be resolved in today's session.

Vice Mayor Veloso and Kag. Edgar Bompat are said to be contesting to head the committee on appropriations.

Kagawads Oscar Glovasa, Zenaido Rama and Nerio Zamora II are contesting the chairmanship of the committee on engineering.

In the 9th Sanggunian, Glovasa chaired the committee on engineering.

On the other hand, the committee on commerce and industry is still being contested by Kagawads Rama, Bompat and newcomer Bebiano Inting.

The city councilors may have to call for a vote if chairmanship in these committees is not resolved.

Bompat, who garnered the highest number of votes among the city councilors is the majority floor leader while Kag. Danilo Bantugan was selected as assistant majority floor leader.

First-termer Kag. Anne Mariquit Oppus is the minority floor leader with Kag. Lucio Balbin as assistant minority floor leader.

COMMITTEES

The committee on rules is chaired by Bompat with Kag. Danilo Bantugan as vice chair.
Inting chairs ways and means with Balbin as vice chair.

Glovasa and Bantugan are heading the committee on city planning, as chair and vice chair respectively.

The committee on protective services will be chaired by Bompat and Zamora.

Kag. Leonides Borja chair the committee on health and sanitation with Rama as vice chair.

Rama heads public utilities committee with Oppus as vice chair.

The committee on economic enterprise will be chaired by Bantugan with Balbin as vice chair.

Balbin and Glovasa will head the committee on labor, agriculture and fishing.

Personnel and reorganization is chaired by Bantugan with Borja as vice chair.

Other committee chairmen and vice chairmen are: Tourism, Rama - chair; Borja - vice chair; Education Culture, History and Heraldry, Bantugan and Oppus.

Barangay Affairs, Kag. Alberta Torralba and Zamora; Public Accountability and Investigation, Kag. Frances Abellana and Zamora; External Affairs, Borja and Bantugan.

Justice and Human Rights, Zamora and Oppus; Environmental Protection, Borja and Zamora; Social Welfare and Family Relations, Oppus and Torralba.

Urban Poor Affairs, Balbin and Rama; Cooperatives, Kag. Edgar Kapirig and Inting.
