Celebrating its first anniversary yesterday, the "Botika sa Katawhan" project of the city government aims to expand its service of providing free medicines to 14,000 families in the city in the next two years.
Botika administrator and Deputy Mayor Mariano Uy made this assurance during his speech yesterday at the 1st anniversary program at the City Health Building.
Uy likewise expressed his gratitude to the project's benefactors and the individuals who are working behind the Botika sa Katawhan.
When it was started a year ago, the Botika sa Katawhan initially catered to some 2,500 families or some 10,000 individuals.
But due to the increasing support it got from its benefactors, mainly Boholanos now residing in the United States, the Botika dispensed more membership cards. In just nine months, 6,500 city residents became beneficiaries of its free medicines.
City Mayor Dan Lim, said in his speech that the Botika will have an additional P500,000 worth of funds which the mayor solicited from his personal friends.
In addition to this, the mayor's friend, German philanthropist Hans Schoof, also donates another P500,000 worth of medicines excluding the proceeds raised during his 60th birthday celebration last night.
Uy said his dream is for the program to "cover the entire Tagbilaran."
