Bohol Photo Contest on Sandugo
« on: July 27, 2010, 07:03:52 AM »
Photographers with the eye and passion to showcase the unique Boholano culture can just shoot themselves into a competition and laugh their way home with handsome prizes.

This as a group of photo-enthusiasts here present "PITIK: Tipik Sa Dugong Bol-anon, a photo competition open to professional and amateurs shooting on July 25 and only at the Sandugo 2010 Street Dancing Festival and only there.

"We see the event as our little contribution to promoting Bohol as a major eco-cultural tourism destination by showcasing the diverse and colorful culture of Bohol and at the same time advance local creative energies and hone them into world-class artistic skill," photojournalist Nilo Sapong said.

"It is quite a fact that while many tourists would want to know what a true Boholano is, it's a hard thing to explain despite the apparent comfort of the words at our easy disposal. Now, if a picture paints a thousand words, they we may have a good channel to tell the world what a Boholano is: through pictures," the convenor of the contest organizing committee explained.
The catch however is, photos must be taken during the Sandugo street dancing parade and its subjects are the dancers, props men, instrumentalists, muses, and even onlookers who may well depict the festive street-dancing event and portray a distinctive definition of a Boholano, he said.

According to him, participants can use any digital, including, yes of course, cell-phones with cameras, or film-based camera to document the action or portraiture and have it developed in size 8R at the entrant's expense from the competition's official developing center at the BQ Mall.

He also said creative effects done within the camera at the time of exposure like multiple exposures, flash fill, lighting, filtration and experimentation using the wide range of technical combinations in the camera are allowed, but manually retouched or computer enhanced prints are automatically disqualified, he bared highlighting the composition as a big factor in the picture for judging.

Now, to keep away from possible bias, organizers pick outside Bohol based professional photographers as judges and goes on to make sure photographers names' do not appear in the entries so amateur photographers can give professional snapshot artists a run for their money, he added.

Contest registration is P100 and includes an identification card and kit that allows participants entry into cordoned areas. For contest forms, call or text Nilo at 0928 524 5723. (PIA-Bohol)
