What could have been a stronger Central Visayas contingent to the Palarong Pambansa on May 8 in Dapitan City might and up a weak team.
This after the Cebu City government through Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young threatened to pull out its support for Central Visayas delegation to the national games. The City is the biggest donor for Central Visayas having given P1 million last year.
"We (the City) are very disappointed with how the Department of Education (DepEd)-7 is managing things and is inclined to withdraw our support," said Young.
Young blew his top after he learned that the Cebu City archers went to Dumaguete for the athletes performance evaluation, which is being conducted by DepEd-7 late January and spent about P11,000.
The evaluation, however, was cancelled due to bad weather. Young was very upset that the student-athletes had to miss their classes for a Palaro activity.
Young also said that he is not agreeable with the evaluation because the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet is already an extensive selection process for the region's representatives for the Palaro.
"DepEd's intension is good. Dir. Recaredo Borgonia has a point but there is a better way of doing it," Young added.
The evaluation also draw flak from coaches, parents and athletes who have won medals in the CVIRAA for fear that they may be replaced in the Palaro lineup.
