Top rank announced yesterday that it has signed hard-punching ALA fighter Mark Jason Melligen, a junior welter now campaigning in Las Vegas. Melligen, a southpaw, has a record of 14-1 with 10 knockouts and boasts of a very good amateur background.
Bob Arum made the announcement yesterday and issued press releases to the media. Melligen outpunched rugged Ramon Montano at the Hard Rock Resort and Casino in Las Vegas last Friday night, winning an eight-round decision by scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74 the night before the Pacquiao-Hatton rumble.
“We were really pleased with Mark’s performance last weekend. He’s young, just 23, and he is improving every fight,†said Arum.
Melligen had over 200 amateur bouts. He was a two-time medalist at the Asian Games, and is considered as one of the top fighters at the ALA Gym.
