The Holy Name University Falcons and the Bohol Institute of Technology Super Cruisers will try to take their luck anew in the coming 2007 Visayas Amateur Athletics Association (VAAA) cagefest.
Both teams were eliminated in the launching of the regionwide tourney last year.

The second season of VAAA was formally launched Thursday at the Yayoy’s Grill and Resto Bar attended by representatives of competing squads.

The opening is set on Nov. 18 with two games on tap at the Cebu Coliseum.

In the first game, the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors will play the Asian College of Technology (ACT) Cyber Knights while facing off in the main game are the defending champions University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars and last year’s losing finalists Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras.
Other competing teams are powerhouse University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SC-SIT) Skyblazers, Dumaguete’s Silliman University (SU), Asian College of Science and technology (Acsat) and Foundation University (FU), Bohol’s Holy Name University (HNU) and Bohol Institute of Technology (BIT) and Leyte’s Western Leyte College (WLC).
USC, UVA and ACT are league newcomers.

The league is sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (BAP) which according to Alcoseba, promised to send the VAA champion to the Universiad slated next year in Bangkok.

The champion team will receive P100,000 worth of sports equipment, while the runner-up will get P500,000. Third to fourth placers will receive P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.
League founder Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba assured competing teams that the league will shoulder their travel expenses and P200 meal allowances.

A player who will suffer an injury during the tournament will also get enough support.
“We will donate P30,000 to an injured player who will need surgery. If the injury is minor, the league has its own doctors who will check on the players,” said Alcoseba, who is also the founder of the fledgling Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA).
