A few months after his “final†fight in Cebu, Gerry Peñalosa will get to fight in front of home fans anew on Aug. 29 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
Peñalosa, who last fought here in February against German Meraz, is being billed to face either No.1 World Boxing Organization bantamweight contender Eric Morel or veteran Mexican slugger Jorge Arce.
“It depends on Gerry’s decision. Maybe he will have one or two more fights before he retires,†promoter Rex “Wakee†Salud told Sun.Star Cebu.
In his last fight, the 36-year-old Peñalosa failed in his attempt for a third division belt and was stopped by World Boxing Organization super bantamweight titlist Juan Manuel Lopez last April.
Peñalosa has held world titles in the super flyweight and bantamweight categories and is currently ranked third in the WBO bantamweight class.
Headlining the boxing extravaganza promoted by Top Rank is International Boxing Federation light flyweight titleholder Brian Viloria, who will be defending his crown against veteran Argentine Luis Alberto Lazarte.
