Darchinyan vs Gorres
« on: February 07, 2008, 07:48:31 PM »
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer, in a conversation with international matchmaker nonpareil Sampson Lewkowicz, revealed today that IBF intercontinental super flyweight champ Z “The Dream” Gorres stands a chance to fight for the IBF world super flyweight title once the mandatory defense of reigning IBF super flyweight king Dimitri “The Baby” Kirilov pushes through against closest available challenger, the reigning IBO super flyweight boss Vic “The Raging Bull” Darchinyan.

Lewkowicz said that the draw verdict in the recently concluded “Now or Never” card placed Darchinyan in the position to face Kirilov in the 90-day mandatory defense for the crown. With the period running short and Gorres required to rest for the cut in his head caused by accidental head butt from Darchinyan, another eliminator between “The Dream” and “The Raging Bull” becomes impossible. Lewkowicz confirmed: “It is final. Vic Darchinyan will be fighting Dmitri Kirilov for the IBF super flyweight title.”

If Darchinyan losses in the bid, Lewkowicz could work a contract with Kirilov promoter for Gorres to challenge Kirilov for the world title. If Darchinyan wins, Lewkowicz and Darchinyan promoter Gary Shaw have already come to a verbal agreement that Gorres will be the first contender to challenge Darchinyan for the crown. “When Gary Shaw speaks, it is as good as a written contract,” Lewkowicz said.

Kirilov rose to the vacant throne of IBF super flyweight when he defeated American Jose Navarro on Oct 13 last year at the Khodynka Ice Palace in Moscow, Russia. Kirilov now stands at 29 wins, 9 by way of knockout, and 3 losses.
