International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight champion Nonito “Junjun†Donaire, Jr. on Sunday successfully defended his title via technical knockout in the fourth round of his fight against American Raul Martinez at the Araneta Coliseum.
A report on PhilBoxing.com said Donaire, dubbed “The Filipino Flash,†dominated the match, scoring “two knockdowns in the first round and one in the second round.â€
In the fourth, Martinez was ultimately stopped “following a big left uppercut†from Donaire.
“This is a triumph of Junjun's good discipline. This is a welcome development. Congratulations to him and his team,†Cebu sportsman Jonathan Guardo told PhilBoxing.com.
Earlier, Brian Viloria knocked out Ulises Solis of Mexico in the 11th round to become the new IBF light flyweight champ.
According to PhilBoxing.com, Viloria 's "right cross stopped matters for Solis at the 2:56 mark of the penultimate round."
The "Hawaiian Punch" now has 25 victories, two losses and 15 knockouts.
Meanwhile, former president Joseph Estrada spent his 72nd birthday by watching the “The Filipino Flash†clash with Martinez at the Araneta Coliseum.
Reports said Estrada will be a godparent in Donaire’s wedding.
Estrada was accompanied by his sons Jacob and San Juan Mayor Jose Victor “JV†Ejercito, former senator Ernesto Maceda and Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco
