Eating watermelon has a similar effect on the body to Viagra, according to researchers in the US.

It's down to a chemical called citrulline which is found in the juicy fruit.

Citrulline is an organic compound which affects the body's blood vessels in the same way as the sex enhancement pills.

It helps relax the blood vessels which means blood gets around the body more easily.

The research comes from the US' Texas Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Centre.

Dr Bhimu Patil led the research. He said: "We've always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important healthful benefits grows longer with each study.

"Watermelon may not be as organ specific as Viagra... but it's a great way to relax blood vessels without any drug side-effects."

It's also claimed watermelons are good for your heart and immune system.

The vast majority of watermelon (92%) is made up of water. But the remaining 8% is loaded with the anti-oxidant lycopene which is also good for your skin.BBC

Halos everyday mi mokaon ug watermelon basta summer kay favorite ni kaayo sa akong father inlaw unya magsegi sila palit then duha raman sila ni Mom mangaon mao permi mi dalhan ug tunga sa watermelon.Perti rabang dagkoa ang watermelon diri ug tam is kaayo. Di gyud ko sum ulan mokaon ani bisan pa ug adlaw adlaw. I will tell my husband limitahan na niya mokaon ani hahhaha.

This is my favorite fruit, btw. The seedless ones, lami kaayo. Tamiis, pero dili tamiis kaayo. Lami ni i-butang sa 'frigider' for 2-3 hours first. Lami kai tamiis ug bugnaw.

Some is a relative word, you can still eat watermelon because of its other nutritional benefits not only as libidinal elixir.

I did discuss this with a friend of mine earlier, she apparently agrees to the watermelon as an aphrodisiac. When asked, "Do you prefer seedless or seeded?", she responded, "Doesn't matter, so long as it's sweet."

Laughter broke out in the library's 'no talking' hall.

hmmmmmmmm, sorry to disappoint the others but ive never felt any libido increase after eating too much of waterm...

sure it really can quench the thirst...but looking at the numbers:

92% water, 8% is loaded with the anti-oxidant lycopene
so the citrulline content (the viagra efek) might only be .5% per whole watermelon...if you eat a slice...maybe the content is.005%

so id have to say one must eat 10 whole watermelon to achieve some viagra efek....sad to say
