Back-to-back Banal and Amonsot at ICM Park
« on: January 26, 2009, 03:45:39 PM »
Boholano boxing heroes, AJ Banal and Czar Amonsot, have to double-time as they face a battle tougher than those where they stumbled- -the upcoming “They are Back” fight this Saturday at the Island City Mall Park.

The “free-to-public” bout is a joint venture of ALA Promotions and the City Government of Tagbilaran.

The 58-round card will also feature some of Bohol’s promising fighters led by Ricky Sismundo who will collide with hard-punching Daryl Pucdol of Wake Salud stable and Along Denoy, former WBO Asia Pacific champion who will test the mettle of Aljun Salogaol of Cebu.

Another exiting feature is the appearance of the young Rocky Amonsot who will attempt to steal the limelight from his more prominent brother, Czar. He will trade blows with provincemate Samuel Galinato of Jagna, Bohol.

Banal and older Amonsot will be facing an acid test against Indonesian’s super flyweight champion, Nouldy Manakane and No. 2 Lightweight contender, Zoel Fidal.

Banal stumbled in his previous clash with Panamanian Rafael Concepcion in the WBA Interim bantamweight championship, while Amonsot tried hard but failed to wrest the WBO interim lightweight title against Michael Katsidis of Australia.

The 25-year-old Manakane is rated No. 4 by the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) and the IBF Pan Pacific and WBO Asia Pacific.

He has fought the likes of World challenger, Hussein Hussein of Australia and WBO No. 1 Posuwan Promunsak of Thailand.

The Boholano camp considers it that “what makes the dangerous Manakane record quiet interesting is the fact that he has never fought a Filipino patsy, nor has ever fought in the Philippines. He is undeniably a much-feared warrior who could give Banal a tough fight”.

The highly-respected Temuzin Rambing, manager of Manakane said “Banal is mistaken if he expects to seek redemption at the expense of my boxer. Manakane will destroy him and end his career.”

On the other hand, the much-awaited return of the colorful and crowd-drawer Czar Amonsot is likewise creating a lot of excitement.

A known-to-be explosive fighter, the 23-year-old Amonsot will be facing another southpaw in Zoel Fidal, another tough Indonesian fighter who has fought in Thailand and Australia but had never fought in the Philippines yet, nor against a Filipino fighter which could also mean that he is being avoided and is a good trial-horse.

ALA president Michael Aldeguer, on the other hand, is quite optimistic in the comeback fight of Amonsot, but warns that “Fidal is not a patsy and could derail his return to the ring. Amonsot should avoid being over-confident”.
