United Nations Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos praised on Tuesday Brazil's response to natural disasters such as floods and mudslides.
Amos met with several officials in Brazil's capital city Brasilia and in Rio deJaneiro to study Brazil's response to disasters, as well as the transparency of federal,
state and
local governments in those occasions.
She said that Brazil's experience can help other countries
develop action plans for similar situations.
"I am very interested in sharing Brazil's wide experience with natural disasters and food security, both in domestic situations and in its peacekeeping mission in Haiti," she said.
The Undersecretary also commented on the delays in the release of emergency relief resources or embezzlement of reconstruction funds which often occur in Brazil. According to her, those are areas where other countries can draw lessons.
