Followers of the “soap opera†featuring the now-shattered marriage of Kris Aquino and James Yap as main plot could have witnessed another memorable sequence had the basketball star attended the inauguration of President Noynoy Aquino last Wednesday. As expected he did not.
Kris, who recently announced that her marriage with James has ended, found her estranged husband’s move favorable enough with respect to the historic occasion.
“Hindi ko siya sinabihan na huwag pumunta,†she said in a TV interview, referring to James’s absence on her brother’s inaugural address. “Siguro naisip niya na huwag nang pumunta para di makagulo at ibigay itong araw na ito kay Noy.â€
Obviously trying to shut off the distraction in her personal life, Kris was calmly within Noynoy’s reach at the Quirino Grandstand and inside the camera frame as the proclamation proper went on. Last Sunday on her farewell appearance on ABS-CBN’s “The Buzz,†Kris practically put a period on her teleserye-like relationship with the popular athlete who plays for the PBA’s B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados.
“Kahit hindi maganda ang naging ending namin, naging mabuting bayaw naman si Noy sa kanya,†she added.
It is reported that the youngest child of democracy icons Ninoy and Cory Aquino is already ironing out the papers that would officially nullify her matrimonial ties to James. The two are parents to a child famously known as Baby James.
In an ironic turn, Kris recently came out with her fifth inspirational album entitled “Blessings of Love.†The package contains 12 tracks each sung by popular recording acts, including Regine Velasquez’s “Hindi Ka Nag-iisa†which was P-Noy’s campaign theme.
In the liner notes, she acknowledged the MVP-level shooter by saying, “Thank you James for the past five years of learning, laughing, and loving.†It was obvious at the time she was filling up the album sleeve, her marriage-ender line “Ako, suko na†was yet unfathomable.
Two more songs in the album are related to Kris’s legendary family, namely, “Impossible Dreams†which Concert King Martin Nievera wrote and performed, and “I Have Fallen In Love With The Same Woman Three Times†by Jose Mari Chan who wrote it out of a poem penned by Ninoy (for Cory) in 1973. Christian Bautista did the version for this compilation.
Interesting covers are Gary Valenciano’s “Love Is The Answer,†Gail Blanco’s “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo,†and Nina’s “You Are Not Alone.â€
