Kris' 'husband' didn't get PNoy's consent

By RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News
10/19/2012

Says he's a 'kapamilya' and a 'kapuso'

MANILA, Philippines - Kris Aquino's "husband" Daniel Magtira led others senatorial wannabes--whose candidacies have not been given due course--before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc.

Magtira was the last to be called before the session went on lunch break on Thursday.  Magtira was sporting a blazer and a name tag with the words, “Senator Magtira”.

Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes jokingly asked him when he got married.

Magtira insisted he is the husband of President Aquino's youngest sister, but the chief executive did not give his consent to the marriage. He said he loves Kris.

Besides his famous “spouse," Magtira also claimed to be backed by other popular personalities.  He said he was also endorsed by former First Lady Imelda Marcos and he is represented by lawyer, Oliver Lozano.

In seeking an elective post, Magtira said there has to be new faces at the Senate, to which Brillantes quipped dermatologist to the stars, Vicki Belo, is needed for new faces.

Magtira also said he is a good singer, and that Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim is already old so he should be replaced.

‘I am a Kapamilya, Kapuso’

Magtira also showed his red shirt give-aways, which introduce him as a senator who is a "kapamilya at kapuso ng lahat ng Pilipino."

Pressed for his other skills besides singing, Magtira said he is a "vocational course."

Brillantes called for a lunchbreak after Magtira's turn, saying they are already dizzy from the hunger and not from Magtira's statements.

The mood during the entire session today was generally one of amusement as some of those who were being heard also drew laughter from the audience.

Aeric Bernardino, for example, advocates lotto winnings for all.

Arsenio Dimaya, on the other hand, said he wants to give vegetables to all.  The 62-year-old Dimaya also thinks the 88-year-old Juan Ponce Enrile is already overstaying at the Senate.

Anicio Escosura introduced himself as a runner, prompting Brillantes to say, "Kaya ka pala tumatakbo."

Edwardo Fernandez, meanwhile, claims to be communicating online with US President Barack Obama.  He said he wants the Philippines to be an American state.  He also had a funny exchange with the poll body chief when he called attention to Brillantes’ white hair.

Bryan Gorostiza, on the other hand, said he wants smokers hospitalized, and that the age at which an individual can be arrested should be lowered to 16 from 18.  He also believes that the start of classes should be “staggered.”

Manuel Insigne, on one hand, introduced himself as a member of the Church of Jesus and the Latter Day Saints.  He then took a swipe at senators with broken marriages.

Wendell Lope, a look-alike of radio broadcaster Gerry Baja, wants to review the 1935 constitution.

There were nine no-shows in the morning session.  By not appearing, Brillantes said they have already waived their rights.

Brillantes said was a bit disappointed that there were no-shows because he said he was expecting to be entertained.
