A baby boy died while three others were rushed to the hospital for what is suspected to be a case of cassava poisoning.
The victim was identified as Christian Lubon, 1 year old and a native of Barangay Calinginan Norte, Sevilla town.
According to the account of the boy’s mother, Angelita, the incident happened last Jan. 27.
She told policemen that they ate cooked cassava at noon time.
After a couple of hours, the boy suddenly complained of stomach ache which was followed by vomiting.
This prompted her to bring the boy to the Sevilla municipal health office for treatment.
The boy was however declared dead on arrival by Dr. Jessie Tabel, Sevilla municipal health officer.
Meanwhile, three other children were brought to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran.
Like the fatality, the victims aged 13, 11 and 4 were also residents of Calinginan Norte, Sevilla.
The three children however were no longer admitted after they were received treatment at the hospital.
Nearly four years ago, 26 children died after eating cassava laced with poison in Mabini town.
