The reason for the acidic pH of the woman's Vagina serves a solid purpose:
1) Acidic pH in the vagina inhibits growth of opportunistic bacteria (therefore, it has an immunocompetency function)
2) Acidic pH eradicates the weak sperms, therefore, allowing the best of the best sperm to fertilize the ovulated oovum.
In a normal ejaculate, a genetical male (XY genotype) will release about 100-150 million sperms. A good half of that amount will be eradicated within the first hours; allowing the fastest sperm, and healthiest sperm to target the 'goal'.
This is why it is so important to have strong urogenital sphincters. For reproductive purposes, and in a species-wide level--is imperative.
