Author Sophia Moreno is a victim turned survivor of sexual assault and domestic violence. In her new memoir, “I Am a Survivor: Saying No More to Domestic Violence” (published by Balboa Press), she shares her story of survival following years of abuse to provide not only information but also support for others fighting the same battle. The book is available for purchase at: https://www.amazon.com/Am-Survivor-Saying-Domestic-Violence/dp/1982226609.
The misdeeds of people in power and in the limelight along with the #MeToo movement have brought a lot of media attention to the epidemic of domestic violence and sexual assault, according to the author. Moreno shares her belief that society, as a whole, needs to learn how to discuss and control these acts of violence that affect mothers, sisters, daughters, and wives.
With the help of Moreno’s narrative of sexual assault and emotional abuse she endured as a child from her uncle and father, she hopes to inspire women to shatter the vicious cycle of abuse and assault and show them that they are not alone. Moreno states, “Other women have suffered similar horrors and escaped to live purposeful, happy lives. The path might be difficult, but there is healing on the other side of darkness.”
