Sleep Patterns of Depressed Patients

Patients with depression typically have the following changes in their sleep stages:

Reduced slow-wave sleep
Reduced REM Latency
Increased REM early in sleep cycles
Increased total REM sleep
Repeated nighttime awakenings
Early-morning awakening (important screening question)
