What is Narcissistic Personality?

A narcissist is somebody who is focused on their own wants and needs. A person with a narcissistic personality will use the power they wield over others to get what they want. They are consumed by feelings, which are unwarranted, of utter self-importance. Basically, they are the kings of their castles and feel entitled to every perk and all the riches in the world. The narcissist is convinced their way is the only way and everybody should do as instructed by him or her.

Narcissism is considered a personality disorder. The feeling of supreme haughtiness leaves no room for empathy for others. The disorder may stem from deep insecurities despite the person’s outright arrogant and self-confident behavior.

The narcissist may also feel unloved. It isn’t uncommon for a person with a narcissistic personality to use others to obtain what they really want or feel they deserve. Anybody who is around this person will be expected to shower him with adoration and attention. He will also look for constant reaffirmation of his greatness.

Narcissus or Narkissos (Greek: Νάρκισσος), possibly derived from ναρκη (narke) meaning "sleep, numbness," in Greek mythology was a hunter from the territory of Thespiae in Boeotia who was renowned for his beauty. He was the son of a river god named Cephissus and a nymph named Liriope. He was exceptionally proud, in that he disdained those who loved him. Nemesis saw this and attracted Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love with it, not realizing it was merely an image. Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, Narcissus died. Narcissus is the origin of the term narcissism, a fixation with oneself. (wikipedia)
