The precordial chest leads (V1-V6) is placed at the level of the 4th intercostal space. V1 is placed on the medial border of the 4th intercostal space at the level of the medial flank of the sternum. The V2 is placed on the left border of the 4th intercostal space. The V3 and V4 precordial chest leads are then placed further left and the V5-V6 are placed to the lateral border of the left chest.
These 6 precordial chest leads allows us to see different angles of the heart.
V1, V2 -- give us the electrical image of the interventricular septum
V3-V4 -- give us the image of the anterior surface of the left ventricle
V5-V6 -- give us the image of the lateral surface of the left ventricle
