Duncan to celebrate birthday during Founder's Day weekend on June 21-22, 2019
Enjoy a number of festivities for Duncan's 127th birthday, including the Queen & King Coronation.
Each year, Duncan, OK prides itself on the celebration planned for the annual Founder's Day Weekend, and 2019 is no exception. With the Queen and King Coronation in Fuqua Park, along with other family-friendly events such as the Foreman Prairie House's 101st birthday celebration and the beloved Kiddieland Park, there's no shortage of things to see and do in Duncan during the weekend of June 21-22, 2019.
In its 127th year, a long standing tradition for Founder's Day is the Queen & King coronation. Hosted by the Stephens County Historical Museum, they accept nominations for the annual king and queen. This event stands out in that all nominees must be over 80 years old and having lived in the county for at least 50 years. The queen and king winners are then chosen and crowned on Founder's Day weekend to show Duncan's appreciation for the many contributions they've provided to the county over the years. The 2019 coronation will take place at Fuqua Park at 11:30 AM on June 22, followed by a lunch provided by the Stephens County Historical Museum, where past kings and queens may attend with their specified escorts.
While in town for Founder's Day, make plans to attend the Foreman Prairie House's 101st birthday celebration and vintage carnival. The Foreman Prairie House is a gem in Duncan as it stands as one of the earliest examples of Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie Style School of Architecture. It serves as a gathering place for the community and a place to connect with roots. The celebration will include a vintage carnival with classic rides and games. The 101st birthday and vintage carnival will take place at the Foreman Prairie House, located at 814 West Oak in Duncan, on June 21 from 2:00-8:00 PM.
At the end of each night, don't forget to stop by the local Kiddieland Park. It has been in operation for over 50 years and features a time-honored amusement park atmosphere. The park is known for providing a truly generational experience, as grandparents delight in taking their grandchildren to the same park they once enjoyed as children themselves. Enjoy a spin on the tilt-a-whirl or take a tour around the park on a miniature train. Other attractions include a merry-go-round, airplanes and a sno-cone stand. Kiddieland Park's hours of operation are from 7:00-10:00 PM on Friday and Saturday nights.
