Frisky is not so frisky

frisky is not so frisky

yes, her name's frisky.  i'm taking care of her while she's recuperating after getting spayed.  she's not really my cat.  but i happened to be there when she was a shaken and hungry fist-size kitten at the sidewalk.  i then brought her inside the grocery store that she was looking into.  thankfully she was accepted.

she became everybody's favorite.  customers came to pet her, including some japanese guys who always asked for her when they didn't see her.  she has the habit of sleeping right at the counter and shutting the world out, to everyone's amazement.  one can roll her on the counter and she'll pretend to be fast asleep like a log.

then i learned that the store owners have no choice but to let loose her kittens in the market in case she produced kittens.  it's not easy to home kittens.  out of every 20 people that i ask, it's enough miracle if one said yes.

so i opted to take care of frisky's spaying; prevent her from having kittens, apply the rh bill at its full force.  that's how she looks, recuperating.  that plastic collar is to prevent her from licking her stomach wound and possibly untangling the surgical thread.  she's on antibiotics too.

despite her current state, nothing can keep her from her favorite place--- beside my laptop.  sometimes, because she wants to rest her head on the keyboard, posting in tubagbohol becomes a contest for space between her and me.

her owners have been missing her.  that's why i plan to take frisky for regular visits daily for a few minutes until she is done with the 10-day recuperation and antibiotics regimen.  we will have to part ways on september 3.  sad.  but that's how things are.  :(

Hmm, ingon lagi ahong lolo kaniadto nga kon naay samad ang iro, basta maabot lang niyag tilap, maalim ra kuno. Was he being unscientific, or are cats just different from dogs in this respect?

::)

that is as unscientific as the old wives' tale that cats' faces should be rubbed on their own dirt so they won't mess up your place.  that's cruelty to the cat.  and why bother when the trick is to simply provide the cat with a "cat toilet" (cat litter box with the proper litter sand).

as for frisky, she may have ended up chewing the surgical thread had her mouth been given access to her wound.

the wikipedia says that wound licking among animals is beneficial because of the anti-bacterial properties of saliva.  it has its own risks, though.  thus i'd rather choose to err on the side of safety.  licking constantly keeps the wound moist and could lead to complications.  i won't take that risk.

as always, i read up as much as i can, preferably conflicting claims, and then i ask the veterinarian, preferably more than one.
