Plastic surgeons raise a rumpus over Kim Kardashian's butt

To some doctors, what sticks out in Kim's Paper magazine cover is a butt lift or Photoshop fakery

Are the Kardashians for real? No, really.

The Sisters Kardashian — Kim with her baby-oil-enhanced appearance in Paper magazine this week and Khloe with her shelf-like posterior, courtesy of trainer Gunnar Peterson — have revived debate about whether those killer kurves are natural or simply the perfect marriage of Photoshop and fat-filled syringes.

Those procedures, which involve liposuction on the stomach, hips, thighs and back followed by fat injections on the top, center and bottom of the buttocks, have been growing in popularity since Jennifer Lopez first shimmied in her “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” video in 2000.

It caused a revolution. A curvy body — especially one with a big butt — became more popular than the heroin-chic anorexic look of a decade earlier.

But Kim and Khloe have taken the bootylicious craze to a cartoonish level.

“Certainly, the Paper magazine images do not look real,” says Dr. Victoria Karlinsky, chief cosmetic surgeon at New Look New Life on the Upper West Side. “She looks incredibly thin in the waist and has absolutely no body fat. I can’t imagine anyone having enough body fat to create something like that.”

“When somebody [like Khloe] has that natural ‘C’ curve, it’s easy to augment,” says Karlinsky, adding that the work was “beautifully done.”

Like Karlinsky, many professionals are calling out the magazine cover shot for being heavily distorted using Photoshop.

“Not sure what screams #photoshop more, the 12-inch waist, or the solid color background?” tweeted Dr. Matthew Schulman, a New York plastic surgeon who performs butt lifts.
