Many people erroneously call a place a BOARDING HOUSE even if it does not provide food - strictly speaking, it should have been called a LODGING HOUSE.
The key difference between a lodging house and a boarding house is that -
a lodging house only provides accommodation and its rooms have own CRs or common CRs, while a boarding house provides both food and accommodation with common CRs.
Accommodation terms:
1. Hotel - big place with interior corridors that provides lodging, food and other services
2. Inn - small usually family-owned hotel
3. Motel - means “motor hotel” that has no interior corridors
4. Hostel - inexpensive lodging facility that has dormitory-style sleeping arrangements and sometimes offers meals
5. Lodging house - place of accommodation that is made in plain and simple fashion with individual or common CRs and does not provide food but lodgers can cook their own food or buy or eat outside
6. Boarding house - provides both accommodation and food and has common CRs
7. Guesthouse or homestay - private house offering inexpensive accommodation
8. Pension house - type of guesthouse usually family-run offering accommodation and meals
9. Apartment - place with rooms with own CRs and kitchen
10. Apartelle - fully furnished apartment
