Islander..
Thanks for that..
No idea how he funds the air time..All I know is there are no toll free numbers to ring etc and no mention of money..
He`s been preaching in the R.P since the 60`s and started out on local radio I believe. (Ang Dating Daan)
Im sure others on this forum can give you more info as he does seem to be pretty well known..Quite a character!
I have no interest to cause anyone any offence and will continue to respect others beliefs..Religion and politics are hard topics to discuss and differences of opinion can be a barrier..
This is the reason why the world is still at war..Very sad.
Must go...Im late!!

ahh, another media savvy preacher.  i hope he is telegenic.  i hope too that the tithe that his followers charitably donate to his cause would keep on coming so he could continue to buy airtime.

Yes..That would be a real turn off..Cant stand the hypocrisy of the type of TV preacher you describe!!
Just watch the guy if you have time and let me know what you think..
He often questions why certain sectors of the Christian community expect donations.. He is quite clear that he does not..
Anyway..Not trying to force the guy on anyone..Just saying that I personally trust him. My choice.

Ha ha!! Now you have me thinking...That I like!!
Ive never really contemplated this subject in great depth but am willing to form an opinion based on this conversation!! (Although I cant stay too long..Lots to do today)

Quoteare you saying then that when religion is 'dying' kleptocracy dies along with it?

Of course!! How could it survive otherwise?
Seems to me,it requires countries with high poverty levels to survive(A bit like the Church) so I was wrong when I said "predominantly Catholic countries",sorry about that!...
The R.P has a 70% church attendance right? Now thats a huge mandate of support by the people which no Government could ignore(or ignore at their peril).. How much political power and influence that represents in real terms is anyone's guess..

Quotei would take it, then, that you have been doing this and you wish others to do the same.
I think it would be inappropriate and ungodly to divulge that type of info..I hope that you agree.

Quotesorry, but i haven't heard the name.  does he come from a country with a predominantly catholic population and a history of kleptocracy?

Yes,he is Filipino and is regularly on local TV channels..Everyday I think.

Quoteas for me, i never believed in preachers who spout hatred against other forms of worship, declaring along the way that theirs is the one, true kind.  even the devil can quote the bible.

I agree 100% !!

They are not on the list because Religion is dying in Europe and the Churches influence on Government is probably non existent these days..
This is bared out by average Euro Church attendances..France for example has an attendance of only 16%!! The UK and Spain only 25% compared to around 70% in the Philippines.

Islander..
I have a deep respect for believers in any faith that are genuine and have good hearts..As I said,I believe in God but do have many issues with some of the men and women that preach to us in his name..(certainly not all)

One of my best friends and his sister were left in the temporary care of the Catholic church. He was 7 years old.
They were both abducted along with hundreds of other children and sent to different parts of the world (usually ,Asia,Africa and Australia)and used as cheap labour to build local churches etc....
My friend and his sister were separated and sent to different parts of Australia. He never saw his sister again.
He was systematically abused by the priest and some of the older boys for many years.
Of course, this was not a "news story" until many years later which of course was strenuously denied by the Vatican!!
How they managed to cover it up for so long is pretty scary when you think about it.
When the evidence and testimonials were heard, the Catholic church`s position after much deliberation and many more years suddenly collapsed and the surviving kids finally received an apology and given $10.000 compensation each.
Kleptocracy is truly a great word..Put simply a very descriptive word that quickly illustrates the situation in most predominantly Catholic countries IMO..
I for one really wish I could see far more effort in giving practical help to the poor instead of just receiving their heart felt donations.

The only preacher that I tend to listen to and trust these days is Eli Sorriano.

Respect!

the catholic was never in the news for stealing.

You mean never? Are you sure?
Quotenor was it ever called kleptocratic.

Im not surprised with a word like that!!  Thats a word that could open a whole can of worms!!...Had to look it up myself!!

By the way..I believe in God..Its just some of the men and women that run his church that I have my doubts about..

with all her family's wealth and how it was sourced, she can still afford to talk about poverty? :o

I guess the same could be said of the Catholic church!

Corella - Bohol / Re: Need for Inventory of Tarsiers

Ok..Sorry couldn't find another camera..
Put it back into its previous habitat so will probably never see it again.. It did bite the handler and he wasn't too pleased but at least that is an indication that it is truly wild..
Amazing creature and much better to seen in its own environment..I never really enjoyed seeing them in cages at Loboc. Sad to see it go..
Has anyone heard that these animals can be found on Panglao island?
Locals all say they have never seen one.

Hi..Not really sure what to do.. We live in Bingag Dauis and this morning have been clearing some very overgrown and dense jungle type land..One of the workers carried over a tarsier he said fell from a small tree he was cutting down..He was amazed at this find as he had never seen one before in his life..Weve put it in a tree near the house awaiting someone from Corella too pick it up.. It has been suggested that it might be an escapee from illegal trade but Im not convinced..We are far from any houses and the highway is 500 meters from our place..It seems quite young and now Im thinking it might have its parents still in there where they found it..I have a feeling there maybe a small colony of them in there..Not sure if its best to just put it back there as it seems really healthy..
What do you think..
BTW..Im a Brit living in Bingag.

QuoteTHE Aquino administration wants to collect more taxes by cracking the whip on sari-sari store owners, market vendors, and the estimated 40 percent of Filipinos who work in the underground economy.

“If you sell something worth P25, you should already issue a receipt,” Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares said.

“Why should somebody pay tax and somebody else not pay?”

Most western tax systems include a family allowance for small family businesses to encourage them to grow and prosper.(for example, the equivalent of a small store owned by a husband and wife with 2 children can earn lets say the first 15,000 Pesos(family tax allowance) in any tax year before taxation applies) Here in the Philippines many small sari sari stores barely make enough profit for living expenses and the payment of a business permit and often become bankrupt within the first year of trading.. Its hardly surprising!
Many of them are under capitalised by private loan companies charging extremely high interest charges which Im sure is not taken into account(interest paid deducted from profits) by BIR admin from already meagre income. Personally I doubt that some of these "loan agents" declare cash received or even issue receipts to their customers and therefore a non entity as far as the BIR are concerned.
The BIR should also take into account that these small stores are in effect unpaid tax collectors as they are distributing products that are liable to VAT and should be encouraged.
From my  experience so far here in Bohol I have noticed that the people here are about the most honest and hard-working that I have come across throughout the Philippines.. All they need is a break to encourage their success ..At the very least..A tax break!!
Just a few observations from a foreign resident here in Bohol.
Hope you dont mind!

Talk of the Town / Fiber optic cable around Panglao.
August 09, 2010, 11:18:27 AM
Hi there..Im a British expat living in Dauis so please excuse my use of English in your great Boholano forum!!
As we live in an internet black spot I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the trenches being dug out around the whole island are for the installation of fibre optic cable.. Would anyone here have any idea what the intended use is for this cable? Is it specifically for the airport or will us local residence be able to benefit from things like TV cable service and high speed internet??
Any information will be appreciated!!
Thank you.
