General Topic / Remembering 9/11
August 31, 2011, 10:10:48 AM
The 10th year of the 9/11 attacks will be commemorated in a few days, do you have particular memories on that day, 10 years ago?

I was at home at the time, hearing of the news on TV, and watching closely the CNN coverage, totally shocked, thinking: World War 3.

I'm actually looking to interview a Bol-anon, who has a direct/indirect experience of 9/11? Surely, that day affected the whole world, not just with air travel, airport security, US aggression, terrorism, extremism, the NY skyline...

As if the PITE was not enough. this sucks. need to know more about this - so we could trash this altogether. i mean, for now, ako in spirit lang & thru online indignation write-ups (like making a cause page? online petition. whatever.) i mean, i don't know much, but the idea is appalling... seriously.

hey, yep...  :)

I know one, Maj Jala who's #4 topnotcher. Congratulations to her?

But who else made it to the phil bar roster?

#5
Kulang ni nga news... We have 3 congressmen in Bohol. Jala and his vote (aye, nay, or abstain?) should've been mentioned. Or was he simply absent?

Cha-cha: lead dancer, FG and GMA
Samba: Admin Secretaries (Praying that GMA extends her term of Office)

Riot na! That's one dance number I would not want to watch! Or I could, but I'll bring a basket-ful of super rotten tomatoes to throw at them. =)
#7
Apparently, cha-cha ra'y nahibal-an na sayaw ani nila. Imajin-a pud tawn mag-swing or even samba with their small, heavy frames and huge tummies. Yuck! =)

Hey everyone! Thanks for the reply.

@Angie: Yes, that's the island. Puntod Island/sandbar as it's called.

@Nikon_D300: Igsoon mi. He's my older brother. Hehe

I've made a photo blog a year ago about my new-found hobby (new-found, at that time) LOMOGRAPHY and the paradise that is our Bohol.

Here's a sampling. There's more where it came from at http://bohollomo.blogspot.com

TMX (The Marochim Experiment) puts the hypothesis  that translation is an epic fail because when you come to think of it, Filipino is more dramatic than English to the test with everybody's favorite Iisa Pa Lamang (IPL) one-liners.

Below are his translations - meant more to annoy than entertain. But don't take my word for it. Read his whole post: Bomba La Isadora: Translating “Iisa Pa Lamang” Quotes and you'll see.

IPL, porn? Hilarious!

*     *     *

Translated Isadora: You thick-faced scum!  You’re nothing more than an ingrate.  So, it’s all about the money now?  Haven’t you even thought that I picked you down from the boondocks, clothed you, and you even tasted corned beef because of me?

*     *     *

Translated Katherine: I’ll be married to a decent man.  I don’t have to be scandalized by women bitten by rabid dogs just because of jealousy.  If you want to spread your rabies, do it somewhere else.

Translated Scarlet: Hahaha!  Me, a rabid dog?  Don’t worry Katherine, because I’ll not be the one to hurt you, but the prisoners at the correctional who really like artificially-white people like you.  Your cell at the block is waiting for you.

Scarlet: Isa kang putik!

*     *     *

Translated Scarlet: You’re a piece of dried mud!

Translated Katherine: Before you ever lay eyes on the mud on my face, you better take a good long look at the herpes on your face.  They stink!  They’re starting to smell!

Translated Scarlet: What you smell is the specter of my father who’s now haunting you because of your tomfoolery!

Translated Katherine: Step down from your throne, for the one true Queen has returned.

*     *     *

Translated Isadora: Of all those who have died, you’re the only one I lit a candle for, Rolando.  You shameless excuse for a man, you really have an edge on me.  Oh well, I have to go, Rolando.  If I stay longer, I’ll probably melt in front of the Virgin Mary.  Rest in peace.

Scarlet: Excited?

I’m so witty.

*     *     *

Translated Scarlet: Excited?  Don’t you know I’m much more excited to go to the dentist and have a root canal just to see you right in front of my face?

Translated Isadora: Come on, you’re trying to be funny.  If all the rotten teeth in the world look as beautiful as me, no one will bother buying toothpaste.  I’m so witty.

Sophia: Don’t you dare say bad things about my mother!  Kumpara sa ‘yo, anghel ang ina ko!

Katherine: Anghel na may sungay!

Sophia: Oo, may sungay.  Para suwagin ka!  Para mauna ka na sa impyerno!

Katherine: Hmmm…

*     *     *

Translated Katherine: You really are the daughter of Isadora, you took everything you are from her.  Condescending, boastful, and most of all, you’re ill-bred!

Translated Sophia: Don’t you dare say bad things about my mother!  Compared to you, my mother is an angel!

Translated Katherine: An angel with horns!

Translated Sophia: Yes, horns.  To haunt and destroy you!  For you to go to Hell first!

Translated Katherine: Hmmm… Your descent to Hell is long overdue.  In fact, a little birdie talked, and Satan himself will meet you there!

Pag-isipan mo.

*     *     *

Translated Katherine: Times have changed, Isadora.  I have a lot of money now, I can buy anything I want.  Even you.  What’s your price?

Translated Isadora: You animal!  You will never buy me ever, and you can never put a price on me!

Translated Katherine: Oh well, I don’t want you anyway!  You’re cheap!  But your daughter, you’ll have to sell her, OK?  Please.  Promise, I won’t haggle a bargain.  I’m OK with used goods.  Think about it.

Katherine: Ako bang pinariringgan mo?

Katherine: Bakit?

Eh ikaw?

*     *     *

Translated Katherine: Are you trying to tell me something?  If you don’t want me around, it’s simple, really: go away!

Translated Scarlet: You’re telling me to go away?  No matter where you go, you’ll always be a coattail-rider!  And I am the real Dela Rhea!

Translated Katherine: Why?  Whoever said you were a mixed-breed?

Translated Scarlet: How about you, are you indeed mourning?  ‘Coz I just noticed, you can crack a joke.  But your jokes are so lame!  Anyway, I want you to know that all these, they’re not permanent.  Everything you have, I’ll take back!

Translated Katherine: Fine!  Let’s play the game!  Let’s take each other’s riches!  But if I were you, I’ll tremble in fear, because I’m used to poverty.  How about you?

*     *     *
Translated Scarlet: I want to see you kneel down in front of me and beg for me to take you back!

Translated Miguel: Eat already!  You’re just hungry!

Big Mike and GMA, and their legions of toadies and bootlickers have yet again greased the tracks for the Cha-Cha train. WTF.

There's always legit reasons for the constitutional amendments but this most definitely smells like Gloria-Forever Complex.

Here's some interesting reads on the latest chachacha crap:

Designed to fail and failing by design

Insidious Word Plays and the Rise of a Filipino Ataturk

The Black and White Movement's press statement (below) is like a gubang plaka already. But the people's fight must match and even top the persistence of these power-hungry monsters.

GMA’S CHARTER CHANGE - A BETRAYAL OF THE PUBLIC TRUST

“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it” - Adolf Hitler

There is a confluence of events that belies the latest claims of disinterest on the part of the GMA administration concerning Charter Change and its evil twin, Term Extension. Her allies in the House of Representatives (HOR) have made short shrift of junking the Motion of Intervention filed by BnW co-convener Manuel L. Quezon III and fellow bloggers. The HOR is now poised to kill the latest impeachment filed by lead complainant Jose de Venecia III. The ill-timed election of administration collaborator, Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, as Senate President hobbled Senate opposition ranks. Finally, that terribly unfunny prayer by Press Secretary Dureza beseeching God to allow GMA to rule beyond 2010 was a trial balloon raised to gauge the people’s response.

The Black & White Movement strongly condemns this latest naked attempt of GMA and her congressional lackeys to perpetuate their administration in power through Cha Cha via a Constituent Assembly. Dureza’s prayer was no slip of the tongue, and the imagined lukewarm response was enough to propel the HOR into Cha Cha motion. Never mind that GMA’s trust ratings continue to flounder below sea level, that the HOR does not mirror the true feeling of its constituents, and that the people’s eyes are trained on seeing elections in 2010. GMA’s contempt and disdain for the Filipino people allows her to focus on clinging on to power as a defense against accountability, and so the Cha Cha Train will reach the station, by any means.

All afternoon, as of this writing, various GMA cohorts in the HOR have disavowed being responsible for gathering at least 163 signatures to a resolution calling for a Constituent Assembly, as if it was a leprous animal, consigning blame to one or another House leader. These disingenuous declarations can only mean that they are embarrassed at being found out, but more than willing to be accomplices to a self-serving end.

Our warnings are justified by these latest actions on the part of this bogus administration; we thank GMA, her family, and her arrogant coterie of sycophants for their lack of ‘delicadeza’ for giving credence to our fears.

We beseech our religious leaders to speak out against this latest betrayal, to reiterate their call for radical reform and God-fearing liberators. We plead with the Supreme Court to continue to be a defender of the people’s trust.

We continue to warn our people â€" if we do not show our indignation, if we continue to ignore these moves, if we do not make our loathing known, we could wake up one day finding our freedoms forfeited and our democracy trampled.

Our collective heart believes that GMA betrayed the public trust and should not stay a day longer in office.

---

"We all have to link and expand our ranks till the entire country is bound together with the strength and the ardor of our resolve. I do not exaggerate when I say this could be our last chance to save democracy in the Philippines. The darkness thickens and we have to move."
- Joaquin "Chino" Roces, 1985

"Laws can embody standards; governments can enforce laws--but the final task is not a task for government. It is a task for each and every one of us. Every time we turn our heads the other way when we see the law flouted--when we tolerate what we know to be wrong--when we close our eyes and ears to the corrupt because we are too busy, or too frightened-- when we fail to speak up and speak out--we strike a blow against freedom and decency and justice."

Hey, thanks everyone!

I'm usually just a lurker 'round here... You all seem like one big family na, and are planning a green commune of sorts na gani... LOL

@Manay Tess. I'll try to make that connection. It's hard enough in real life (I mean in person) to just PM people. =)

@Ms. Da Binsi. If you are what you are, a kin of the Renaissance Man, then you're way cooler! Hehe!

@Gingah. I did email Mike but not about this. About  the free promo link for my Bohol zine site. But I hope he gets to read this post, too. =)

Cheers!

The question, I think, seems to hint that Marcos was actually great, and that's why there's a need for another HIM?

If so, can I ask if the world needs another Bush?

Touche!

Help & Support / On Posting + Linking
November 19, 2008, 09:06:51 AM
Hi everyone!

I don't know which section to post this, but ever since I joined Tubag Bohol I've always noticed that most of the articles or topics and even pictures posted here are ripped somewhere in the world wide web. I could see that there are credits, which is good. But I've also noticed that there are no links back to the original sources, which is not cool. I think that's basic.   :)

There are scholarly reasons but my personal reason really is that sometimes, for photo posts for instance, I want to browse more of the same pics and would very much like to be given the link back to the Flickr album (if that's its original location) so that I could see more of that photographers works and whatnot. Same with articles, wherein maybe I'd like to see follow-up stories and the like.

I was supposed to email this to the admin, but decided to post it here, so everyone would also be conscious of linking.

Thanks!

I hope I don't get my arse kicked to Timbuktu for airing this!  ;D

Cheers everyone!

*Please ignore this, if there are actually backlinks, and I just didn't notice it! My bad!*

Thanks Macky!

You are too kind... ;D

Yes, my how TubagBohol has grown! Murag lisod na kaayo isakay, you guys are now a real community...  :)

Thanks Ate Tess!

That is, if you go travel through the river (which is the easier route). Otherwise, you go by habal-habal or 4WD truck, naay tipasonon sa Brgy. Gotozan downhill to the Nut Huts itself. The place is basically a backpacker's shack kay basic kaau facilities... Not for the usual tourists gani...

There's sooo much more places in Bohol to explore!!!

Cheerios!

Thanks Ate Tess and Miss Da Binsi (I dunno your real name, sorry  ;D )

Actually I was a member way before pa under a different username, kaso na-deactivate or something... All the same, dili sad ko kaau tigpost, malagmit low gihapon ako ranking...  ;D

I remember when we stayed in Nuts Huts last holy week, and we chanced on discussing this issue with the owners. They were really the ones who first voiced their opposition to the project. They even consulted with the community people who were also against the project because of the strain that it will cause to the already crippled loboc river system. There's the wave action that have already caused considerable damage to the riverbanks (considering the soft soil structure in the area).

And it's gonna be noisy. The noise might be forgivable during the daytime, but at night when you'd rather want to hear the beautiful songs of the cicada and other night creatures? You guys must go to Nuts Huts to experience this. (Di ko stockholder sa Nuts Huts ha...  ;D) Though, I don't know if it's still beautiful with the blaring music of the night cruise.

Okay so when the Nuts Huts owners (foreigners) aired their sentiments to the Loboc LGU. What they got was this response that goes something like this: You're not from here. You just follow our laws.

Anyway, they pretty much laid low because they might not be given business permits next year. They have this notebook, though, in their restaurant that compiles all the comments of their guests regarding the night cruise and river lighting project.

One of these days, I'm gonna start an online black prop campaign against that night cruise...

(Okay so medyo napataas ang ako post... hehe!)

I absolutely agree with you Mam Maritess!

Well, the man's just a congressman. He can't simply prima-donna his way into Dubai or elsewhere... =)
