Our society is still a patriarchal one. It is difficult for a woman to be accepted in an equal footing among men. There are lots of sexisms.
So if a woman is succcesful careerwise, it is not easy for a man to look after her. Malakas ang kantyaw. I know lots of very intelligent Pinays and really successful, but a man to find to be a partner, it has still a long way to go.

This is somewhat long but worth reading folks!

St. Paul the Missionary Writer

St. Paul the Apostle was the greatest of the early Christian missionaries. He first appears in the Acts of the Apostles under the name of Saul. Saul was raised in the Jewish faith as a Pharisee trained in the strict observance of God’s Law. He believed the Law should be obeyed by himself and all Jews. Saul was upset by the early Christian Church, believing that the early Christians had broken away from their Jewish traditions. He actively persecuted the Church in Jerusalem. As the first Christian martyr Stephen was being stoned to death, Saul watched the cloaks of the persecutors (Acts 7:58).

Paul then traveled to Damascus to further persecute early Christians. On the road to Damascus Saul had an encounter with the Risen Jesus Christ (Acts of the Apostles 9:1â€"19, Galatians 1: 13â€"14). Jesus asked, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Paul replied, “Who are you, sir?” Jesus responded, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting” (Acts 9: 4 â€" 5). Jesus then sent Saul into Damascus to wait for further instructions. Saul was shaken and blinded by the experience. When a Christian named Ananias came and baptized Saul, his blindness went away. As a result of this encounter Saul became a follower of Christ. He was now convinced that fellowship with the risen Jesus Christ, not the observance of the Law, was all that was needed to receive God’s promise of salvation. (Galatians 1:11â€"12; 3:1â€"5)

Saul, whose name now became Paul, went to Jerusalem to consult with Peter (Galatians 1: 18). After his first missionary journeys, Paul was called by Jesus to proclaim the Gospel to the Gentiles. He spent the rest of his life journeying on his missions, establishing local churches, and writing to them when he heard of their accomplishments and failures. Paul’s letters are the earliest records of the life and history of the early Church. As inspired by the Holy Spirit Paul’s letters are part of the Canon of the New Testament. As a record of the happenings in the early Church they are in invaluable record of the expansion of the Christianity.

St. Paul’s Writings

All together, there are 13 epistles that bear Paul’s name as the author. However, scholars do not believe that he wrote them all. Paul himself was the author of first and second Thessalonians, Galatians, Philippians, first and second Corinthians, Romans, and Philemon. The epistles to the Ephesians, Colossians, Titus, and first and second Timothy bear Paul’s name, but it is believed that they were written after his death. The writers of these letters were disciples of Paul who wanted to continue his teaching. Whoever the authors of these epistles were, these writings have been accepted into the New Testament as inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Centrality of Jesus Christ

The most profound and moving day in Paul’s life was when he met the risen Jesus Christ. Paul was well respected by the Jewish community and his peers. But he gave it all up for Christ. “More than that, I even consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Jesus Christ my Lord.” (Philippians 3:8) Jesus Christ, Paul realized, was sent by the Father to bring salvation for all. Paul taught that we are united with Christ in faith and Baptism; “We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4)

On the personal level, individual Christians recognize that when they are united with and justified by Christ, they receive the grace needed to overcome sin and to live moral lives. (Galatians 5:16â€"26)

Justification

Paul teaches that the justice of God was saving justice at its best. God is faithful, fulfilling the promises made in the Old Testament covenant. Through the sin of Adam and Eve the human family was alienated from God. Through Christ the human family is called back into relationship with God. This process of reuniting the human family with God is called justification. (Romans 3:21â€"31) It is impossible for us to justify ourselves; we are only justified by being united in faith with Jesus Christ and by accepting the gift of grace won by Christ. (Romans 5:1â€"2) We can only be made right with God and set free from a life of immoral living by accepting the gift of God’s reconciling grace.

Life in the Spirit

Paul teaches that the love of God is being poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. (Romans 5:5) The Holy Spirit is the source of all love. The Holy Spirit creates a bond between us and God like children bound to a father. (Romans 8:14â€"16) The Holy Spirit not only establishes our relationship with the Father. Even though we are weak, the Holy Spirit helps us to live faithfully within that relationship. (Romans 8:26â€"27) It is through the Holy Spirit that we can live in love with all people. (1 Corinthians 13:3â€"7)

The Moral Life

What does it mean to live a Christian moral life? Paul thought deeply about this question. He was raised as a faithful Jew. As we have seen Paul, was raised to believe that following the strict moral code of the Jewish faith was the way to salvation. Paul believed “… the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.” (Romans 7:12.) What Paul realized, however, that because we are weakened by the sin of Adam and Eve, it was impossible to us to reconnect in our relationship with God through our efforts alone (Romans 7:14).

After his experience with Jesus Christ, Paul realized that he was not alone on the road to salvation. Jesus Christ has already accomplished salvation for us. In faith and Baptism, Christians receive the grace of the Holy Spirit, who is our constant guide. The Holy Spirit helps us to live in relationship with God and others.

The government is obliged to recognize the fact that their populace is huge. The politic is aware of their clou or political importance. If you go to Berlin , there exist a Turkish ghetto. There are schools (elementary) where  the number of non-Germans is 80%!
If I hear some discriminatory remarks from German I always say that this is a dying race, the few of the rest of pure Germans will be placed in a reserve area like Indians in the USA or the aborigines in Australia. Foreigners are here to stay for good whether they like it or not.

Muslim theologians are within themselves in disarray.  Here in North Rhine Wesphalia, the federal government is willing to put Islam as a religion course in schools, but it was diffucult to implement the teaching module since different Imams can not agree what to put as teaching material.

There is a strong Turkish populace here in Germany as well as in other parts of Europe because they came here as immigrants, during the years of economic boom.

What’s the Price of Contentment?

There is great gain in godliness combined with contentment; for we brought nothing into the world, so that we can take nothing out of it; but if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains.

A Brief Look at St. Paul's Life and Teachings

Who he was:

A Jewish Pharisee (Phil 3:5-6; Gal 1:14; 2 Cor 11:22) who believed in the strict observance of God's Law both for himself and for all believing Jews

Why he became a Christian:

Journeying to Damascus Paul had an encounter with the risen Christ (Acts 9: 1-19). He became convinced that fellowship with the risen Jesus (Gal 1:11-12), not the observance of the Law (Gal 3:1-5), was the necessary and sufficient condition for receiving and participating in God's promise for salvation

Missionary Strategy:

Paul believed that Christ had come for all and the observances of Jewish Law were not necessary for those who believed in Christ (Gal 2:15-21 - 3:1-5). This created an ongoing battle with those who thought that Jewish observances were necessary for all those who sought entrance into the Church (Gal 5:7-12).

St. Paul's Essential Message:

In Jesus Christ God had acted to provide salvation for all who believe (Rom 1: 1-7). This salvation, whose complete realization lay in the future, has its beginnings in the present. People can experience this salvation in their own lives (Rom 8:14-17).

Centrality of Jesus Christ:

Christians are united with Christ through faith (Rom 5: 1-2) and rejoice in the gift of God's Spirit, waiting for the time when the Lord will return and the work of salvation complete (1 Thess 4:13-18).

The Christian's Bond with Christ:

Through faith and baptism (Rom 6: 3-5) the Christian assumes a new identity in Christ. On the social level, the Christian joins the community of the church, which proclaims the Gospel and lives in union with Christ's Spirit (Gal 3: 25-28). On the personal level, Christians recognize that, united with the Lord and justified by Christ, they are given the help needed to overcome any tendency for immoral living (Galatians 5:16-26).

Justification:

In Paul's thought the justice of God was salvific justice at its best. God is faithful, fulfilling the promises made in the covenant. God justifies, which means that it is God alone who reconciles humankind through Christ (Rom 3:21-31). People cannot justify themselves, but can only be justified by being united in faith with Jesus Christ and by accepting the grace won by Christ (Rom 5:1-2). Justification is not something that can be won by following the Law, but people can only be made right with God and set free from a life of immorality by accepting God's reconciling grace as a free gift.

The Wisdom of God:

The notion that God's saving work is accomplished in the crucified Jesus is a scandal to the Jews and foolishness to the Greeks (1 Cor 1: 17-25). The idea that a condemned person could be a vehicle of salvation went against basic tenets of the Jewish faith. They could not believe that a crucified man could be a sign from God. It is foolishness to the Greeks because the idea that the transcendent God would be involved in human affairs was ludicrous, especially in the form of a crucified criminal.

The Cost of St. Paul's Discipleship

St. Paul founded the church in Corinth around the year 51. He spent about a year with them, instructing them and praying with them. He then continued his missionary journeys. But Paul remained in communication with the Corinthians. While he was proud of the people there, he was also disturbed by some of their attitudes he heard about. He was especially upset when he heard that there were Christians in Corinth attacking his credibility. So in his second letter to them, Paul describes the difficulties he has faced proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ:

Are they ministers of Christ? (I am talking like an insane person.)

I am still more, with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, far worse beatings, and numerous brushes with death. Five times at the hands of the Jews I received forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I passed a night and a day on the deep; on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my own race, dangers from Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers at sea, dangers among false brothers; in toil and hardship, through many sleepless nights, through hunger and thirst, through frequent fastings, through cold and exposure. And apart from these things, there is the daily pressure upon me of my anxiety for all the churches. (2Corinthians 11: 23â€"28)

Paul was able to survive this difficult life because he was in constant dialogue with God through prayer. He understood the importance of his work in proclaiming salvation in Jesus Christ.

The Year of Saint Paul

Pope Benedict XVI has announced a special jubilee dedicated to St. Paul the Apostle. The Pauline Year, which runs from June 29, 2008, to June 29, 2009, will be celebrated with liturgies, symposiums, and special publications devoted to the life and writings of Paul.

Interesting Facts about St. Paul

1. Paul was from the Roman city of Tarsus, located in what is today southern Turkey.
  (Acts of the Apostles 21:39)

2. Paul was not physically impressive, nor was he a very good speaker.
  (1 Corinthians 2:1 and 2 Corinthians 10:10; 11:6)

3. Paul had a sister and a nephew. (Acts of the Apostles 23:16)

4. Paul was educated in Jerusalem under the famous Jewish teacher Gamaliel. (Acts of the Apostles 22:3)

5. Paul was a Pharisee (Acts of the Apostles 26:5) and a tentmaker. (Acts of the Apostles 18:3)

6. Paul was a Roman citizen from a wealthy family. (Acts of the Apostles 22:25â€"28)

7. Paul participated in the stoning of Stephen, the first Christian martyr. (Acts of the Apostles 7:58)

8. Paul was the most prominent apostle in the early Church because he was so effective at forming
   Christian communities.

9. Although Paul wrote the most books of the New Testament, Luke, who only wrote two books,
still gets the prize for writing more words than any other writer in the New Testament.

10. Paul’s conversion is among the most well-known.

Eliana Burki melodically represents Switzerland in both traditional and non-traditional fashion. Her Alphorn is of carbon, her alpine prayer pop and she distances herself from traditional costume. However, in the meanwhile the alphorn is regarded a primordial and integral part of Switzerland.

Jazz and Blues for the sake of motivation

Eliana’s alphorn teacher Jürg Sommer was easily persuaded. Because deep down he knew that his one-and-only alphorn student would soon lose interest if he continued to teach along the traditional lines of Swiss folk music.
Eliana’s alphorn sound soon drifted in the direction of jazz and blues â€" much to the astonishment and disapproval of a few music fundamentalists, who wrote Eliana’s parents nasty letters accusing their child of «messing-up” Switzerland’s national instrument. «Many others found it great â€" including folklore enthusiasts», says Eliana looking back.

European travels with mother and alphorn

Following a performance at the Basel Jazz and Blues Festival, her mind was then made up â€" And at only 18 she decided in favour of a professional career in the music business. However, to step in contact with the public, vocal numbers were a must - and let’s not underestimate the tricky combination of playing the alphorn and voiced sound - singing requires a completely different set of muscles!

«A light and folding alphorn»

Today’s alphorn is no longer made of wood but composed of numerous feather-light telescopic carbon pieces (synthetic material) which are slotted together and find room in a sports back-pack. The horn necessitates being assembled and newly tuned before every performance.

An alphorn has five octaves â€" the higher the octave, the more powerful the tone issued. Due to the difficulties in the transmission of natural tones, musical arrangements for blues, jazz and funk with the alphorn require a rewrite.

Chinese and Americans

«The Chinese together with Americans are the most appreciative audience» reports Eliana enthusiastically. That’s why she particularly enjoys performing for a Chinese audience. In 1999 Eliana musically represented Switzerland for the first time at a world congress in Paris and since then often serves her country as musical ambassador. Her tours take her all the way from Amsterdam to Hong Kong and back in 2008.

Sensitivity is an emotional factor, this enhances our interaction with others. EQ,a higher  emotional quotient is highly regarded to  high IQ, Intelligent quotient. The reason is,  a person who has a high EQ is flexible and well adjusted specially to team working which is considered a high qualification.

Truth and Love

God shares truth and love with the world in ongoing revelation. Beauty exists in the quiet heartbeat of the beloved. We learn to stop and attune our soul to listen, to be watered in the presence of God.

Magandang araw po Gener,

I was in deep thought because of your posting.  God gave us freewill. If human being choose the wrong side, who are we to judge?
Why God allows suffering?  It is a mystery , we in our small minds can´t cope to understand. I would say we trust God´s mercy. Talk to Jesus in your own words and say how you feel.

The Inner Voice

To be heard, the inner voice of our wisdom requires a daily shower of stillness and prayer. In addition, awakened senses are needed, as is a deep trust of God’s love and enduring goodness. Trusting and reverencing the still, small voice of inner truth is precious to God, others and us.

Military History Companion: Friedrich Engels
Engels, Friedrich (1820-95), political economist, military writer, and theorist; friend, colleague, and adviser of Karl Marx; and founder of communism. Born at Wuppertal on 28 November 1820, he began writing political tracts in 1839. In November 1842 he visited Manchester in Britain and became a member of the Chartist movement, and first met Marx in Paris in 1844. His experiences led to writing The Situation of the Working Class in Britain (1844-5) and, in turn, The Communist Manifesto (1848). Further experience of the 1848-50 revolutions in Europe and particularly in Germany led to the writing of Revolution and Counter-Revolution in Germany (1851-2). In 1850 he returned to Manchester where he worked in a commercial firm, partly to subsidize Marx.

In 1870 Marx and Engels attended the Congress of the First International in London. In 1871 Engels welcomed the Paris Commune, fitting it into his view of progress through capitalism towards a dictatorship of the proletariat. After Marx's death in 1883, Engels completed and published the unfinished second and third volumes of Das Kapital.

Engels was an expert analyst of military affairs and, in particular, of the mid-19th-century revolution in military affairs and the role of industry and arms manufacture. Marx considered that he had ‘made the study of military questions his speciality’. Many of the articles attributed to Marx owe much to Engels. Their division of interest was fairly clear cut, Marx studying the political essence of wars and their character, Engels, the material basis of military affairs and the nature and origin of wars and armies.

Engels's detailed study of military affairs was fired by the Crimean and American civil wars, although much of his military analysis dates from later life. He realized that future wars between major powers would be total war, and would depend to an unprecedented degree on technology which, in turn, depended on a nation's industrial base. In 1892 he wrote ‘from the moment warfare became a branch of the grande industries (ironclad ships, rifled artillery, quickfiring and repeating cannon, repeating rifles, steel covered bullets, smokeless powder, etc.) la grande industrie, without which all these things cannot be made, became a political necessity’. In a letter of 1888 he prophesied the nature of war accurately enough. ‘No war is any longer possible for Prussia-Germany except a world war, and a war of an extension and violence hitherto undreamt of.’ The study of war could not be extracted from its political economic and diplomatic contextâ€"as he wrote, ‘diplomacy is higher than strategy’.

Engels's views on the military revolution taking place at the time were sound enough, but hardly unique, and he would probably not have gone down in history as a great military thinker and analyst were it not for his friend Marx. It is questionable whether either of them would be remembered today had their work not been taken up by Lenin. But for the study of the 19th-century revolution in warfare his work is important.

Son of Wuppertal, Friedrich Engels

Born: 28 November 1820
Birthplace: Barmen,Wuppertal  Germany
Died: 5 August 1895 (cancer)
Best Known As: Karl Marx's collaborator and editor
Friedrich Engels moved from Germany to England in 1842, where he worked as a manager in a factory. In 1845 he published The Condition of the Working Class in England, which suggested that the poor working class would only benefit if they fought for socialism. Engels had met Karl Marx in 1844 and together they wrote the Communist Manifesto, predicting ultimate victory for the proletariat. After 1848 Engels returned to England and financially supported Marx, whose works he also edited and translated.

I attended a mass, and our officiating priest told us that during the prayers for the faithful we could go to the altar,  say our prayer request and  light a candle (provided in front of the foot of the altar).  It was  a short agonizing moment for me since this corruption in Pinas is endless, so I did participate and said my prayer request for the politicians in my country the only Christian land in Southeast Asia, that corrupton and scandal be put to an end. Kyrie was sung after the prayer request, and to my surprise the community sung loud. I was emotionally moved.

Bush reacted instictinctively after  Sept 11, but in the long run the political and military measures was almost paranoid.  It was unstoppable especially the sending of more troops to a foreign land.
It is an undeniable fact that the US  Marines/ armies, soldiers  who were sent there were mostly traumatized when they returned. I don´t think they would voluntarily return to their posts/assignments if asked again.
There are lots of casualties, victims (locals), families who suffered, is it worth dying for?
The effort is almost a Sissyphus task.  I hope Obama has better options.

Here are some infos about date as a fruit;
A  Date fruit  is the product of a date palm, a tree native to Northern Africa and the Middle East, although it is also cultivated in other parts of the world. In addition to being eaten fresh, the date fruitfruitfruit is dried and eaten whole as a snack or included in an assortment of desserts. Many regional Middle Eastern cuisines incorporate datesdatesdates, as do Mediterranean cuisines like those of Italy and Greece. Dried datesdatesdates are usually readily available in most markets, and fresh datesdatesdates can be found in specialty markets in season.
A full grown date palm, or Phoenix dactylifera can reach 82 feet (25 meters) in height, with a spreading crown of greenish leaves. The date fruitfruitfruit grows in heavy clusters suspended under the leaves, and they are yellow in the early ripening stage, or kimri, the Arabic word for unripe. Some consumers enjoy date fruitfruitfruit in the next stage, khalal, meaning full sized but crunchy, while others wait for datesdatesdates to reach rutab, ripe and soft. When the date fruitfruitfruit is allowed to sun dry on the tree, it is considered to be in the final tamr stage of ripening.

Dates are so sweet. In United States they are usually available around Christmas time. They grow in clusters, and each cluster can contain up to 1700 dates.

Migraines are linked with low oestrogen - high levels of which can stimulate breast cancer

They may feel like someone is pounding your head with a hammer, but migraines could mean you are much safer from breast cancer, according to a new study.

Research has shown that women with a history of migraines have a 30 per cent lower risk of breast cancer compared to other women.

Researchers suspect the pattern is related to the production of oestrogen.

The female sex hormone is already known to stimulate the most common kind of breast cancers, those that are driven by hormones.

But today's study points out that hormones also play a part in migraines, with women two or three times more susceptible than men.

Migraines, which can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting and extreme sensitivity to light and noise, often strike when oestrogen levels fall due to the time of the month.

But during late pregnancy, when oestrogen levels are high, four out of five women who normally suffer the intense headaches find that they clear up.

The U.S. research team looked at the histories of more than 3,000 women, nearly 2,000 of them with a history of breast cancer.

Dr Christopher Li, who led the study, said that women who get migraines 'may have a chronically lower baseline estrogen', adding: 'That difference could be what is protective against breast cancer.'

'This gives us a new avenue to explore the biology behind risk reduction. Hopefully this could help stimulate other ideas and extend what we know about the biology of the disease.'

The study, conducted by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, is published in the specialist journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.

The study comes after research published earlier this year showed migraines may increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes in women.

Separate research has also suggested migraine sufferers could be more likely to be struck by blood clots in their veins.
