Philippine Business News / Re: Receipts for Donations

TBN Radio program can exist even without the Volunteers Club. It's a radio program that existed way before the Volunteers Club. So why Volunteers Club in the first place? To help collect the money/donations? To help spread the word? Versus the radio? Hmmmm. Or maybe just lend a hand? (Interfering is another story) ;D

Maybe the TBN archorman realizes he does not need you (Volunteer Club) in all honesty, labi na kung hilabtanon pa jud. Who started this Volunteers Club anyway? The anchorman? DYRD? Or kamo-kamo ra and maneuvered to be associated with the real TBN radio program? Unya, nagpa register pa para ingnon nga? Nga dunay official ties with the Radio Program? Hmmmm.

Hope somebody can expound on these questions.

Uso raba sa ato nang apil-apilon (mo attach) and then kung attached na, mao na say maghari... labi na siguro kung nakapa register na pod sila sa ilang "little association" with SEC. Usahay, they really believed nga official representative na sila sa maong programa. I wonder how that is...

I hope inyong tubag ani dili, "Aw!!!" ;D

Pwede pod balihon, "Wa." or "Waaaaaaah!!!" ;D

Kining BIR (dili ni Internal Revenue). BEER man jud ni ba gibinasaya pagka spelling. O diba hinubog pagka sulti. Mao nga ge pronounced

Si Priscilla namugos nga gusto jud niya ang J&B kay dali daw sila ma praning, ug Made in USA kini... ;D

I wonder if she meant "Cheet" (kana bitaw'ng recibo inig human kaon sa restawran?) ;D

Paregla ning ila bah... TBN = Tinuod Ba Ni? >:(

Abangan ang sunod na kabanata!!!

Addendum: Nasuko si Cheers kay gusto niya pulutan PABO (dili Jerry Pabe.). Si JB wa mosugot kay di pa daw available ang PABO karong October. Next month pa, 4th Thursday of November (Thanksgiving Day) !!! Bwahahahaha!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Makalingaw baya ni nga thread kay "bibo del fuego." Pero yupak na kaayo... kay sa tinuoray sige man naka publish or posted ang mga ni donar sa TBN. (Basa mog Bohol Chronicle kada Domingo naa na!!! I can attest to that!!!). Maski ang Diocese of Tagbilaran, panahon sa bagyong Ondoy, worked very closely with DYRD and TBN.

St Genevieve Church On Bayou Liberty Break Ground

Video courtesy of WWL Channel 4 New Orleans & ABC News 26 New Orleans

Construction of new St. Genevieve Catholic Church near Slidell begins with ceremony

by Christine Harvey

The Times Picayune

A fluorescent orange X marks the spot where parishioners from St. Genevieve Catholic Church near Slidell will bring handfuls of dirt from home today to fill the spot where the groundbreaking for a new church will take place.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond will celebrate Mass under the stately oaks on the banks of Bayou Liberty where parishioners gathered five years ago for the first Mass after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the original church, which was built in 1958, though the Chapel of St. Genevieve existed on the site from the 1800s.

After the Mass, parishioners will drop the dirt into the hole where the new church’s altar will stand to symbolize the church becoming their new parish home, said the Rev. J. Roel Lungay, St. Genevieve’s pastor. The groundbreaking and the blessing of the site will follow.

“It means a lot,” Lungay said about what the new church will mean to the parish’s 900 families. “But it makes me think about the people who didn’t live to see the church rebuilt.”

The church will take the shape of a cruciform and measure nearly 12,000 square feet, with fiber cement siding and a metal roof. It will have space for more than 500 parishioners, a sizable jump from the old church’s 350-person capacity and the 300 or so seats now available for worshippers in the church’s parish hall, where Lungay has been celebrating Mass since the storm.

The church will rise 7 feet off the ground, per the area’s new flood requirements, and an elevator will take those parishioners with special needs to the main floor. Officials at one point had hoped to build the church 11 feet high to be able to use the space underneath, but the cost became prohibitive, said Kathie Lusch, the church’s secretary and a member of the Building and Design Committee that helped to create the plan for the new church.

Mary Silva, a parishioner since 1983 when her family moved to the north shore from New Orleans, said she never felt like a true part of the church until she joined the effort to rebuild it. She said with so many parishioners original to the area, her family felt like it was on the outside looking in.

“This is giving us all a chance,” she said. “This is our church now.”

Lungay is hoping that families that left St. Genevieve after the storm will come back once the new church is built. The church lost about a third of its parishioners after the storm.

In addition, the church has been unable to offer religious education classes in the interim, though it joined with St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Slidell to provide children with the classes, and no one wants to have a wedding there, with no grand aisle to walk down, he said.

Construction is expected to take 18 months and will begin as soon as the church receives its building permit from St. Tammany Parish. The parish is waiting for the church to submit some paperwork to the parish’s Department of Environmental Services before granting the permit, said Tom Beale, a parish spokesman.

Parishioners will not be able to access the church’s boat launch during the construction period.

Officials salvaged the old church’s stained-glass windows, hand-carved Way of the Cross stations, 150-year-old baptismal font and crucifix, and will incorporate the items into the new church. The congregation also plans to restore the old church’s St. Genevieve statue.

The new church will cost $3 million, plus another $1 million to outfit the church once it’s built, Lusch said. The Archdiocese of New Orleans has set aside about $2 million for the construction, while St. Genevieve is nearing its goal of raising an additional $1.5 million.

May the poor be helped, may those who gift generously continue to give with meekness in their hearts, for sure, God loves a happy giver.

And shall shower them return a thousand fold! Trust me, He does. :)

Peace to all those involved.

Accounting Practice for Non-Profit Organizations

Source Documents/ Filing -

Each entry should be backed up with folders of documents supporting each transaction. In addition to receipts, payments should be supported by a payment voucher and any other relevant documentation. Payments and receipts should be filed separately. File these documents in date order, the most recent on top. This filing system should make it easy to find the records for any transaction listed in the cashbook.

Provide Receipts for Donors â€"

Always give receipts when you receive any kind of donations. It is best to use the carbon copy kind. This allows the donor to claim their contribution on their tax return, as well as provides you with a record of donations.

Explanation of Accounts -

The accounts included in the spreadsheet are:

• Bank Account â€" Record deposits, withdrawals, and fees charged
• Cash â€" Keep track of all cash transactions
• Donations â€" Monetary support received
• Non-Cash Donations â€" Estimate the value of clothes, food, etc received
• Sales â€" Record goods sold at the selling price
• Cost of Goods Sold â€" Keep track of the cost of and profit made on goods purchased for sale. More on this account below.
• Advertising â€" Cost of advertising the organization's purpose or an event
• Bank Fees â€" Record any fees charged by the bank
• Charitable Contributions â€" Record the transaction when funds are transferred to help your cause (i.e. To a specific school, orphanage, charity)
• Miscellaneous Expenses â€" One-time expenses not covered under the given accounts
• Office Supplies â€" Envelopes, staples, paper to print flyers, etc
• Postage â€" Stamps, delivery expenses
• Printing Expenses â€" Having material printed for an event, making copies
• Professional Fees â€" Hiring a consultant, accountant, web page designer, lawyer, etc
• Other Income â€" Any income that isn't a donation or sale, and that doesn't relate to the mission of the organization. For example, if the organization invests in a mutual fund, the profit from the sale of the stock would be listen under Other Income. Also, if the organization's savings account receives interest, it will be recorded under this account.

Keep in mind that you can tailor the spreadsheets to your own activities and needs. If there is a recurring expense that isn't covered under the given accounts, don't hesitate to create a new account (don't forget to assign an account number to it and add it to the income statement). Likewise, feel free to delete any extraneous accounts that you don't use. Just make sure your records are consistent.

Recording Transactions -

Each transaction, be it receiving a donation, selling cards, or paying a bank fee, must be recorded in order to keep accurate business records. Each entry should be recorded in the general ledger. The general ledger is the core of your records, where every financial transaction is accounted for. It may seem confusing at first, but it's easy once you've made a few entries.

There are two main points to understand when using a general ledger. The first is that the information recorded in the general ledger is used to create an income statement, which is an overall picture of efficiency based on income and expenses for a given time period.

The second issue is that you will always create two entries for any given transaction. For example, if you receive a donation of 2,000 yen:

First, record the donation under Donations (100):

06/29/06 Donation 2,000 Received donation from Mr.X

Then, make an entry under the Cash account, since the cash has not yet been deposited into a bank account.

06/29/06 Donation 2,000 Received donation from Mr.X

When you deposit the money into the organization's bank account, you will again make two seperate entries to record the transaction:

Under Bank Account:

07/02/06 Deposit 2,000 Deposited donation

Then, under Cash, subtract the amount of the deposit, since you no longer have the cash on hand:

07/02/06 Deposit <2,000> Deposited donation

Try to keep the explanations as detailed as possible. It's fine to lump several donations together in one entry under Donations, as long as you keep a seperate report detailing the individual transactions.

Paying Out of Pocket

If you pay for an expense out of pocket, for example if you purchased a book of carbon copy receipt templates for 400 yen on July 10th, you would first make an entry in the Donation (100) account:

07/10/06 Donation 400 Purchased receipts out of pocket

Then, enter the expense under Office Supplies (330):

07/10/06 Receipts 400 Purchased receipts out of pocket

Please see the sample ledger for more examples of recorded transactions.

Cost of Goods Sold

Note: If you are selling cards for Go M.A.D., or any other good you don't have to purchase, ignore the Cost of Goods Sold account! Enter the cash received under the Sales and Cash accounts only.

This may be the most complicated accounting concept you will have to deal with while using this system. If you decide you want to purchase goods, with the intention to sell them at a higher price in order to donate the profit to charity, there are some special entries you will have to record.

First, lets say you purchase 20 greeting cards for 50 yen each, which comes to 1000 yen total cost to you. Record the purchase under Cost of Goods Sold (200):

06/30/06 Purchased Cards 1000 Purchased cards to sell (20 @ 50en/each)

Then, reduce cash, your bank account balance, or increase the donation account (if you paid out of pocket), depending on where the money came from. For example, lets assume you paid using cash you had from donations that you hadn't deposited in the bank yet:

06/30/06 Purchased Cards 1000 Purchased cards to sell (20@ 50en/each)

When you make a sale, you must make 3 entries. Let's say you sold 5 cards for 100 yen each (500 yen received).

First, record the sale in the Sales (101) account:

07/01/06 Sold Cards 500 Sold 5 cards @ 100 yen each

Next, record the cash received in your Cash account:

07/01/06 Sold Cards 500 Sold 5 cards @ 100 yen each

Then, record the reduction of inventory in the Cost of Goods Sold (200) account, using the price you paid, not the selling price:

07/01/06 Sold Cards 250 Sold 5 cards (5 @ 50 yen cost = 250)

Non-cash donations

All non-cash donations, such as food or clothing, should be recorded using their fair market value. Just think of what you would pay for clothes in a second-hand store or how much food costs in the grocery store, and calculate the value of the donation. For example, if you receive a donation of 2 shirts and one pair of pants, a good estimate would be 200 yen for each shirt, and 300 yen for the pair of pants, making for a 700 yen value of the donation. This would be recorded under the Donation (100) account as:

07/17/06 Non-Cash Donation 700 Received 2 shirts (200 yen each) and 1 pair
                                                                       of pants (300 yen)

And then in the Non-Cash Donations account:

07/17/06 Non-Cash Donation 700 Received 2 shirts (200 yen each) and 1 pair
                                                                       of pants (300 yen)
Income statement -

An income statement, otherwise known as a profit and loss statement, is a summary of a company’s profit or loss during any one given period of time, usually over the course of 3 months. You use an income statement to track revenues and expenses so that you can determine the operating performance of your business over a period of time. Specific items that are causing unexpected expenditures can be pinpointed, such as fees, postage, or supply expenses. Income statements can also track increases or decreases in donations versus money spent on advertising and how much of the donations received makes it into the hands of whoever the organization is trying to help.

Adding Rows to Accounts -

Inevitably, you will need to add rows to the accounts in the general ledger in order to accommodate a higher number of entries than the space provided. The formulas within the spreadsheets automatically calculate the totals of the accounts in the general ledger, as well as column F in the income statement. If you add a row to an account, or add accounts to the income statement, be sure to check that the formulas cover the new perimiter, although the formula should update automatically.

For example, if you click on cell D19 in the general ledger, you will see the formula =SUM(D9:D18) in the white area above the spreadsheet. Now, if you add a row to this account, the cell that displays the total will then be D20, and the formula, when you click on D20, should read =SUM (D9:D19), and will now display the sum of the new range. Update the formula manually if it doesn't update automatically.

Accounting Periods -

You can begin recording entries on any date, as long as you keep consistent time intervals. For example, if you begin recording entries on 06/20/06, you will then create the income statement for the quarter on 9/20/06, or thereabouts.

You should record entries in the general ledger for three months before creating an income statement for the quarter. After the quarterly income statement is finished, do not record any more entries in that quarter's general ledger. Instead, you will need to start a new spreadsheet for the new quarter.

When starting a new ledger, don't forget that the ending balance of Bank Account, Cash, and the Cost of Goods Sold Ending Inventory become the opening balances of those accounts for the next quarter!

Supporter Database -

There is also a spreadsheet dedicated to keeping a record of everyone who has helped support your cause, whether donor or volunteer. This way, you can keep everyone updated on charity events or upcoming projects. But first, be sure they consent to being contacted by your organization.

Tax Exemption Guidelines -

Even if the organization doesn't file taxes, this information is good to keep in mind:

To be tax-exempt, an organization must be organized and operated exclusively for one or more of the purposes set forth (charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sports competition, and the prevention of cruelty to children or animals) and none of the earnings of the organization may inure to any private shareholder or individual. In addition, it may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not participate at all in campaign activity for or against political candidates.

The term charitable is used in its generally accepted legal sense and includes relief of the poor, the distressed, or the underprivileged; advancement of religion; advancement of education or science; erection or maintenance of public buildings, monuments, or works; lessening the burdens of government; lessening of neighborhood tensions; elimination of prejudice and discrimination; defense of human and civil rights secured by law; and combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency.

Father Lungay, for me, I find no discord between Science and Catholic Faith. In my opinion lang, our understanding of science (which is quite minimal) gives man an idea of how God works His Brilliance amongst the Universe. We can never come to fully understand Him and His Ways.

Just as the water buffalo , the grazing zebra, the wildebeest come back to the plains of Serengeti (Africa) every year, our faith in Christ is similar. These grazing herbivores come back to this place because of instict, knowing that the rainy seasons brings much needed green grass, fresh cool water to drink and the environment to raise their young until the coming of the dry season.
We cannot physically see salvation, but we know it is there, we know we have it, we know that we are called to it. Just as the grazing herbivores know that the rains will come in the Serengeti, know that the dry season will disappear with the coming of the flooding , life-giving rain.

Hey folks, when it come to cases like this, there must be a "black and white protocol" (its an auditing idiom)
- mean.. it should be recorded properly thru "incoming and outgoing" invoices.

-On the part of a Donor whether private or firm, there must be an invoice or receipt testifying the said amount given to a certain org.

-On the part of Charity org. or whatever it is..as a recipient (incoming invoice) is necessary.

Happy Trails to you!!! ;D I mean, paper trail is important... to support claims on both/all sides. Anti-thesis sa pamakak ug pataka hehehe...

Hahahaha pareglahan na sad ko ninyo dah hahahaha. ;D But thanks for the little complement. Bitaw, dili mana ako woi, mao man lang sad na akong pagsabot sa mga pagtulun-an sa atong simbahan, sama sad ninyo. Like most of us here I'm also, or, just a student of life. Daghan pa sad ko wa masabti... pero sama sa panultion, we're always on a search... for whatever, whether it be answers to life's questions, search for peace and happiness, search for truth, wisdom, etc. Pwede pod search pamalit og ice candy or manok BBQ (little dinero lang god). ;D

And along the way we stumble a lot. But our faith gives us the assurance, or reassurance, that "somewhere out there" (dili tong kanta ha? ;D), there is a God who loves us and cares about us (who even died for us)... which is truly a beautiful thought. And we put faith in that thought or promise. Simple as that (or is it?).

Pero naa baya poy laing mga ideals or world-views that think otherwise or something else (other that the Christian thought) sama sa nagkalain-laing mga world religions, communists, atheist (nga lain sag mga pangutok kay sa atoa)... Well, mao man sad nay ilang panan-aw sa kinabuhi or how they explain their worldly existence, so wa pod tay mahimo. Lain-lain baya ning mga panan-aw o panabot nato aning kalibutana and we simply live by it (our faith system) that we think is meaningful to us or make sense to us... because it's what we think gives meaning (purpose) to our life or existence.

Ug usbon ko, as Christians or Roman Catholics, mao man sad ni dagan sa atong pangutok... so kung dili ta ganahan sa panan-aw nga Katoliko, aw, naa pa man poy daghang selection sa MENU sa kinabuhi and we're free to choose what fits our personality, attitude or outlook. But don't claim to be Catholics when in reality you really believe otherwise.

Personally, I have great respect for people of other beliefs/faith (atheists included) when they live their lives out of conviction. In fact, I have friends from the Eastern Bloc countries (e.g. Czeck Republic, Croatia) who are "atheists by birth" but are the most wonderful people you could ever meet... and they are just as respectful to the Catholic faith, sometimes, even better than some people who claim to be Catholics hahahaha. Mor pa!!! ;D

Anyway, thanks Bran (TB's official Catholic Defender), day RAQ (for your down-to-earth-ness), Islander (yes you can keep the note for your file) & Scarbz (Scarb-ramouche2x will you do the pandango! Bitaw woi ingon raman ang Simbahan kanang natural gamita kay mas lamian, jok jok jok ;D... labi nag adto sa huNasaN sa Anda maghimog bata (AyUgZ!!!)) :P

Jesus said to the first disciples, "Come, see for yourself."

The rest is history...

To those who heed the call, they left everything and followed Jesus... not just to the different towns and villages but followed him to the end. All of them eventually died for the faith that Jesus initially planted in them.

The rest is history... we learned in Scriptures that those who chose to stay in the dark, and missed out on the Lord's invitation, eventually were responsible, or were partly responsible, for his rejection and eventual death.

In short, there were those who heard the call and there were those who chose to continue their old ways. The faith is never forced on anyone. But to those who chose to "put on Christ" must "clothe themselves in Christ" (meaning, there are rules to follow and doctrines to adhere to). And that job was clearly given to Peter, the "rock" upon which He will build his Church, to the Apostles... and in turn to the Holy Mother Church, the dispenser of the mysteries of faith... without which I don't know what kind of chaos we would be in.

Was the Church perfect in its administration over the course of many centuries? No. Far from it. It a society composed of imperfect human beings. There were dark ages in Church history as well as renaissances, give and take. And yet, nothing can take the fact the our Church has the Apostolic succcession (tradition) that goes back the 12 and ultimately to the Lord himself.

To this day, the offer still stands... pero wa jud na ipugos, whether you agree or not with the Church's stand on many issues affecting the lives of its members.

But if you claim to be a Catholic, it's not a matter of democracy, or, what they call nowadays as Christian consumerism (kamoy magbuot kung unsay inyong tohoan o dili). The Church always stands for what is right and what she believes as Christ-like. Nothing more. Nothing less.

In short, kung ang usa ka tawo wa mooyon sa barogana sa Simbahang Katoliko, pwede man adto mo join sa TBN (Tagbilaran By Night) kay didto pwede magsigeg lalis... pwede pa mo join kay kamolo pag silag lalis hehehe.

The question is....Why is the Philippine Catholic Church Against Family Planning?

No, the Philippine Catholic Church is not against Family Planning. The Catholic Church is promoting the Natural Family Planning. I said no because I am one of the lecturers about Natural Family Planning in our Parish.

Actually, not only the Catholic Church is against the artificial family planning but all other Christian Communities.

We need "muchos dinero" for sports programs like these and personnel. It costs. But you just can't leave it to "CHANCE" if you dream of a better, healthy and high-level sports program. Unya, kaya ba nato na? Kaya ba na sa Provincial Government? Are Boholano parents aware or see the significance/importance of a good sports program? Wa pa ni mahimong kultura sa ato, except maybe for basketball hehehehe.

We need to establishe "PUBLIC" playgrounds for kids and youth that cater to sports loved by Filipinos, e.g., basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, etc. We need to encourage an all-year round tournaments or competitions to keep the interests of athletes at a high level. Loosing one's sense of competition (like when one gets older) is the beginning of the decline of one's interest in competitive sports... mosugod nag kadako ang bil2x ug motaas na pod ang presyon ug sugod. There's no turning back, 'ika nga. G\So get them while they're still young!!! :)

I can attest unsa ka lamian ning lugara... duol ra sa ICM. Kanang gikan ka moliko from the City Hall (to ICM), naa sa tuo sa karsada. Haskang daghanang tawo ma udto tungod sa kalami sa pagkaon... gawas sa kadaghan sa variety sa ilang pagkaon. Sige ko kuhag pagkaon diha "to go" pero adto nako banatan sa balay sa Cabawan aron maka patuyang bwahahaha!!! ;D
