Last Philippine day in NorthRhine Wesphalia, one the project director of Evonik who built a huge coal generated  power plants presented their project. Aware of the environmentall-unfriendliness of this projects, I asked what has been done to reduce the emissions? He told me that they are using modern filters to lessen the ashes and carbon dioxide emitted in the air.  The effect could not be seen soon, hopefully he is telling the truth.

Welcome to the University of Wuppertal
Founded in 1972, the University of Wuppertal (UW) is still young. Its twin goals are academic excellence in its individual disciplines and the consistent development of the interface between these disciplines and the world of practical experience – in a word, the transfer of knowledge and technological know-how.

With a combination of disciplines that is somewhat unconventional for a German university, UW offers interesting possibilities – for example in subject combinations for teaching degrees, in interdisciplinary cooperations between the Faculties of Engineering and Economics, or in the field of Safety Engineering, where UW's degree program is unique in Germany.

The university's reputation as a force in business and industry goes beyond its role in regional economics. Its business startup and marketing program provides young entrepreneurs with a first class springboard that once again in 2007 – as in 2005 – won Wuppertal number one position in the German university rankings. ( mao kini ang iningles sa German)
statistics:
total number of students 14,134

Jesus’ Family Tree

Jesus’ family tree may not seem interesting except to historians, but it is miraculous. Jesus’ ancestors included Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and King David. Jacob knew, almost 1800 years before, that the Messiah would descend from his family. Think today about God’s careful planning, over centuries, for Jesus’ arrival in our world.

This is a very touching article.   There are German doctors who spends 4-6 weeks of medical missions in some rural areas in third world countries.  There is a British surgeon who spends 3 months in Africa, working on club-footed kids.  He brings some donations and his skills to help them walk like any normal kids. God Waits Patiently

Like the second son in today’s Gospel, we may be reluctant and even resentful about obedience at times. But God waits, knowing that we just need a little time. Is there anything you know you should be doing, but you have been putting it off? Maybe it’s time to say “yes” to God.

Montano, Ayalas toast Bohol heritage

By Pablo Tariman
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 02:39:00 12/15/2008
Filed Under: Arts (general), Culture (general)

THREE years ago in Bohol, actor Cesar Montano showed me the interiors of the
Baclayon town church, built in 1727 by the Jesuits using coral-stone blocks
from the sea and egg white and plaster to glue the blocks together.

With it gilded altars, Baroque and Classical inner façade and its retablos
highlighted by images of saints, I told the award-winning actor, “What a
beautiful venue for concert!” Later, I would test the acoustics and found it
excellent.

Earlier, I learned that film scorer Nonong Buencamino recorded the choir
music used in the Marilou Diaz-Abaya film “Muro-Ami” in this church and the
award-winning film was actually shot on Bohol Bay.

Later, Montano also told me about the church’s historic pipe organ, which
was installed in the choir loft in 1824 and years later found itself in a
state of disrepair.

Experts say the Baclayon pipe organ has the character of Spanish Baroque
organs and its parts could mimic the sound of birds through the little
pajarillo pipes. It can also enhance melodies with the tinkling of the
cascabeles, an ornamental stop with bells on a wheel drum and campanillas.

Through the assistance of Patricia Zobel de Ayala and the Ayala Foundation
Inc., the organ’s pipes, wind chests, manual keyboard, pedal and other
accessories were repaired extensively and restored to their original form.

Saturday morning last week, I saw Montano at the Tagbilaran airport and told
him about the Baclayon concert, which would officially herald the coming to
life of the newly restored Baclayon pipe organ.

In the evening, I found myself on the church choir loft with Montano and
wife Sunshine Cruz, watching a concert featuring composer-conductor
Cristobal Halffter and pianist Maria Manuela Caro on the pipe organ.

In the audience were Jaime Augusto Zobel, Sofia Zobel, Patricia Zobel and
Bea Zobel Jr., who is behind a renewed restoration program involving Bohol’s
cultural heritage.

So fragile

Pianist Maria Manuela Caro opened the concert with Antonio de Cabezon’s
(1510-1566) Tiento del Primer Tono, followed by a Handel largo solo arranged
by AR Parsons.

As the first two numbers unfolded, one realized the musical instrument was
so fragile. It needed a focused assistant to keep it in tune and go through
its complicated parts, like its ornamental stop and its tambor (big wood
pipes) used to create rumbling sound similar to a drum.

Bach’s Aria and the 7th Variation of the Goldberg Variation had a fairly
good reading, and I suppose this piece is better off played on the piano to
preserve its original nuances.

One got to finally hear the uses of the big wood pipes and the reed stops
with Juan Bautista Cabanilles’s “Batalla Imperial.”

The piece is a musical replica of a military battle and was properly the
most virtuosic piece played on the program.

The evening was highlighted with Halffter playing Christmas carols from
different countries. He concluded with a contemporary piece that ended with
the use of the organ’s pajarillo pipes echoing the sound of birds, and we
thought that was the most charming and compelling number from the concert.

The significance of this concert is that the Zobel family helped bring back
to life the remaining musical symbol of the town’s cultural heritage while
also assisting the town embark on a massive restoration campaign to preserve
its historical, cultural and natural sites, including local traditions in
craftsmanship.

Late in the night after the concert, Lani Schoof (wife of Hans Schoof, owner
of Baclayon’s Peacock Garden Resort and Spa) treated Montano and company to
a late-night cap.

Schoof, who is German but very Boholano (and Filipino) at heart, earlier
showed us his Rizal collections in his cigar room, including furniture from
Heidelberg where Rizal stayed in Germany.

It was an uncanny coincidence Montano had played Rizal in Abaya’s “Rizal.”

Montano remarked before the night cap ended: “It would be nice to hear
Cecile Licad play in Bohol next year after this historic pipe organ concert
in our historic town.”

December 12th, 2008, the day you will witness the full moon to be the biggest and brightest this 2008. This is because the moon will be closer to earth than usual. It will be 221,559 miles (356,566 kilometers) away from the earth, the closest distance since March 1993.

We call this event perigee - that's the closest distance a body gets to Earth during its elliptical orbit around our planet. When it is at its farthest, the moon is considered to be at apogee. [see image below]

By the way, this year's apogee will be on December 26, when the moon will be 252,650 miles (406,601 kilometers) from Earth.

So watch out for the full moon tomorrow. It'll be 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger -- the best time for skywatchers to enjoy the night! Best time to watch? The closest closest approach around 9:45 p.m. UT.

If you want to know when the next perigee be, here is a moon calculator (Lunar Perigee and Apogee Calculator) that will display the date, time, and distance of lunar perigees and apogees for a given year.

Watch the video from National Geographic. Also, visit National Geographic for some moon facts and the effects of the perigee on Earth's tides. ( Sorry for the late postings)

There was a documentary film shown in German television about seaweed farming in Bohol. The sea is facing Cebu, ( it was quite sometime hence I can´t remember the exact location).
This project was assisted by Siliman University, San Carlos University and a Canadian institution. The seawater needs a consistent temperature and a certain degree of salinity.
I was interested because this projects could be given German assistance if it could generate income for the locals.

Inspiration & Hope / Re: The year of St Paul!

The Church as the Body of Christ

Abraham Lincoln loved the Bible. He read it throughout his life and quoted it often. Lincoln was a firm believer in Jesus. But he had little use for the church. Many people today have the same attitude. They believe that they should have a relationship with Jesus but think that they would be hampered by belonging to a church. This is not what we find when we read what St. Paul and early Christian writers wrote about the Church. Early Christians could not think about Jesus except in terms of their relationship with the Church.

The word church means the convocation of all those who are gathered together in assembly to form the People of God. The Church has been called into being by God who dwells within it, rules over it, and directs it. Paul describes the Church by calling it the Body of Christ.

As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts, of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:12).

As the Body of Christ, members are bound together in a communion of life and virtue over which Christ rules. Through the Church a new creation emerges, a new humanity in Christ.

Incorporated into Christ

Believers become members of the Church through faith and baptism. Through Baptism believers are incorporated into Christ. “For all of you were baptized into Christ have clothed yourself with Christ.” (Galatians 3: 27). United in Christ through the gift of the Holy Spirit all believers were “…baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12: 13).

Living in the Spirit Christians became

“a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises” of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)

In the later letter to the Ephesians, the Church is vividly described as the bride of Christ who

loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the bath of water with the word, that he might present to himself the church in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. (Ephesians 5: 25 â€" 28).

Early Christians were taught a new way of life in which through the Church they entered into the mystery of dying and rising in Christ. With their fellow Christians they are to live as if they are dead to sin and living for God in Christ (Romans 6:11).

Our Lady of Guadalupe

The feast in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe goes back to the sixteenth century. Chronicles of that period tell us the story.
A poor Indian named Cuauhtlatohuac was baptized and given the name Juan Diego. He was a 57-year-old widower and lived in a small village near Mexico City. On Saturday morning, December 9, 1531, he was on his way to a nearby barrio to attend Mass in honor of Our Lady.

He was walking by a hill called Tepeyac when he heard beautiful music like the warbling of birds. A radiant cloud appeared and within it a young Native American maiden dressed like an Aztec princess. The lady spoke to him in his own language and sent him to the bishop of Mexico, a Franciscan named Juan de Zumarraga. The bishop was to build a chapel in the place where the lady appeared.

Eventually the bishop told Juan Diego to have the lady give him a sign. About this same time Juan Diego’s uncle became seriously ill. This led poor Diego to try to avoid the lady. The lady found Diego, nevertheless, assured him that his uncle would recover and provided roses for Juan to carry to the bishop in his cape or tilma.

When Juan Diego opened his tilma in the bishop’s presence, the roses fell to the ground and the bishop sank to his knees. On Juan Diego’s tilma appeared an image of Mary as she had appeared at the hill of Tepeyac. It was December 12, 1531.

Comment:

Mary's appearance to Juan Diego as one of his people is a powerful reminder that Mary and the God who sent her accept all peoples. In the context of the sometimes rude and cruel treatment of the Indians by the Spaniards, the apparition was a rebuke to the Spaniards and an event of vast significance for Native Americans. While a number of them had converted before this incident, they now came in droves. According to a contemporary chronicler, nine million Indians became Catholic in a very short time. In these days when we hear so much about God's preferential option for the poor, Our Lady of Guadalupe cries out to us that God's love for and identification with the poor is an age-old truth that stems from the Gospel itself.

Quote:
Mary to Juan Diego: “My dearest son, I am the eternal Virgin Mary, Mother of the true God, Author of Life, Creator of all and Lord of the Heavens and of the Earth...and it is my desire that a church be built here in this place for me, where, as your most merciful Mother and that of all your people, I may show my loving clemency and the compassion that I bear to the Indians, and to those who love and seek me...” (from an ancient chronicle).

Our Lady of Guadalupe spoke in Juan's native language (not spanish).

Do not be troubled or weighed down with grief.
Do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain.
Am I not here who am your Mother?
Are you not under my shadow and protection?
Am I not the Fountain of Life?
Are you not in the folds of my mantle?
In the crossing of my arms?
Is there anything else you need?
(words spoken to St. Juan Diego on December 12, 1531)

Who Is Jesus’ Elijah?

John the Baptist was the “Elijah” who was to be the Messiah’s herald. We can fulfill the role of Elijah today by showing Jesus to those around us. We are the “salt” that makes people thirsty for Jesus. We show God’s light to those in darkness. Ask God to show you some concrete ways you can “be Elijah.”

Strange, not really.  Europe is liberal ( mostly). Homosexuals can adopt a child. A lesbian could buy from sperm bank, have her choice and fertilize it with her own egg. After nine months ahe got a baby of her own, father unknown! This holds true for Ricky Martin. He gave her sperm to a surrogate mother, and now he got twins.

Pools of Water in the Wilderness
Isaiah’s prophesy of the coming Kingdom promises flowing waters in the dry desert, enough for everyone to drink. Picture the Holy Land or any desert today, and see Isaiah’s beautiful prophesy coming true. Rivers flow, fountains spout, trees grow. In what ways are you “thirsty and dry” today? Ask Jesus to give you his “living water” to satisfy your thirst.

Weary and Burdened?

Are you weary and carrying heavy burdens, especially at this time of year? How can you take Jesus’ “yoke” and find rest? Our duties and problems become “light and easy” as Jesus helps us carry the load.

Medieval Christmas Market at the Chocolate Museum
9th Cologne Medieval Christmas Market at the Chocolate Museum

www.medieval-christmas-market.com
The Medieval Christmas Market in front of the Chocolate Museum on the banks of the river Rhine has become a highlight on the Cologne Christmas Market scene over the last four years. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over Europe and the enormous media response are proving that this market is a special event with its own special atmosphere.

Leaving behind the hectic times we will carry you off into the thrilling world of the picturesque Middle Ages. Medieval craftsmen will be working on their typical products while telling some ancient tales. The air will be full of fine scents: oriental spices, freshly homemade bread, roasted mocca, tasty grilled wild boar and a lot of more exo xotic treats with only the best ingredients. Jugglers, jesters and medieval musicians will create a jolly atmosphere. A daily changing authentic cultural programme with multiple attractions beginning every hour will enchant young and old.

Come and feel the cosy atmosphere - try the very special "lovers drink" (spiced hot red wine), the hot mixture served in old stone jugs or the freshly brewed black SÜNNER-Beer from a traditional cologne Brewery. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the famous Chocolate Museum and the Choco-Shop inside!

ps

Mr Bean is always on a business trip in Cologne during these period. I wonder which merchandise is he selling.

The Aachen Market has become famous far beyond the boundaries of the Aachen region. This is due to its pleasant and familiar atmosphere. People come to the Christmas Market in order to meet their families, friends, acquaintances and colleagues. This happens during the lunch break or after work, during the week or at the weekend. The carousel is a must for the children as is the mulled wine for the adults. Potato fritters are eaten at all times of the day. Naturally you will find a large variety of Printen and other Christmas cakes and biscuits, "Domino Stones", gingerbread, "Spekulatius" and marzipan bread. These are distributed all over the world by Aachen bakeries. However in the Aachen Christmas Market they come oven fresh and taste particularly delicious.

The organisers of the Christmas Market are proud to boast approx. 1.5 million visitors every year. Amongst them you can find guests from the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom

For many of us the most romantic season of the year begins in November, when Christmas markets open in many countries. It is the most sensuous time of year, characterized by candle light and the aroma of traditional Christmas bakery, ice-flowers at our windows, mysterious Christmas stories, a clinking frost, and romantic evenings in front of a cosy fireplace. Lebkuchen and Printen gingerbreads, German Stollen, Spekulatius almond biscuits, Zimtsterne cinnamon cookies, Glühwein, and mulled apple cider are seasonal delights, and they are available at Christmas Markets.

Most people visit Christmas markets with family, friends, and colleagues. Single people may even meet that special someone they have been hoping to spend the holidays with. Some of us will be happy to enjoy a glass of mulled Glühwein, review the most precious moments of the past year before our mind's eye, and look forward to a well-deserved respite over the coming holidays. Visiting one or more Christmas markets is a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit.

This page offers you a selection of beautiful, traditional, romantic, popular, and unusual Christmas markets throughout Germany, Europe, and the World. Dresden's Striezelmarkt, the oldest German Christmas market, and Nuremberg Christkindlesmarket are always worth a visit, and there are many other fine Christmas markets waiting to be discovered. Our website christmas-markets-germany.de offers you more than 1798 events of Advent, including 1127 highlight with impressive fotos.

Kinsa man ang tag TB, atimana si Oliver aron dili mag-inusara. Ipakita ang best of Bohol, mobo ra ang 2 ka semana. Kon si Ondoy Oliver wala pay Scuba divers license, he can start one, Bohol is a diver´s paradise. You can visit other tourist spots in-between. Please visit www.bituon.com, the German diver instructor is fluent in english. You can visit Anda with its underveloped beauty spots. The church is rich in culture (wall paintings). There is a cave stalactites in Guindulman, water falls in Candijay.  I want to promote the East side of Bohol!  Panglao is nice but this area is still unexploited, that means very, very nice and far from the crowd.

Good luck to you, Ondoy Oliver. ( this tip costs you nothing)

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20th 1889 in Braunau-am-Inn, Austria. The town is near to the Austro-German border, and his father, Alois, worked as a customs officer on the border crossing. His mother, Klara, had previously given birth to two other children by Alois, (Gustav and Ida) but they both died in their infancy.  Adolf attended school from the age of six and the family lived in various villages around the town of Linz, east of Braunau.

Dr Jose Rizal is a fine youngman. Alay is correct to say  that Adolf never got an inch of Dr Rizal´s intelligence.

The Healing of Our Spirits

The Kingdom of God means restoration: The blind see, the deaf hear, the lame leap. True healing begins internally, with the healing of the spirit. In what ways has Jesus healed your inner soul so that your outer life has been less “paralyzed?”

The Butuan Global Foundation got plenty of projects. I want to learn a lot from them and apply it to Bohol. They have the advantage because they are long established in the USA with high profile and excellence in their fields. Most of them are dedicated. There are seminars and trainings about professional NGO works which is not accesible in Europe particularly Germany. Their donations are tax deductibles,  that we don´t have  here.
They are very articulate and prolific in writing letters for fund applications, grants and fundings for NGO foundations.  Waa jud mi ni-ini sa Germany.  Ang ako,   igo lang ko mag admin sa website ug mag-layout sa Newsletter for them. All of my articles are edited by Butuanons. but the finals lies on me.  We have a Libertad Cleanest Barangay contest which will end this coming April-May 2009, sponsored by the Butuan Global Foundation Europe chapter.

What I know is , Judy Araneta his mother, is ready to spend all the family´s fortune to support Mar Roxas´s presidential candidacy.  Araneta Coliseum and the adjascent 6 hectares of this prime land belongs to the Araneta family.

Mar Araneta Roxas has an excellent educational background and  he favored  to abolish the capital punishment  which made him a favorite in Europe.

An intricate pre-nuptial agreement makes the marriage plans with K Sanchez in limbo.

Kwartahan naman si Roxas daan, mao ang iyang interes nga mangorakot less possible. He might gave our country a new promising future.

From CNN online news
MANILA, Philippines (AP) -- Gunmen armed with automatic weapons and grenades fired on Philippine police officers who were tailing them, leaving at least 16 people dead in a fierce shootout in a Manila suburb on Saturday.

Officers were following suspected members of a robbery gang when the gunmen sensed the surveillance and opened fire, triggering the gunfight late Friday near a residential subdivision in suburban Paranaque city, metropolitan Manila police chief Leopoldo Bataoil said.

He said the gunmen, some armed with M-16 rifles fitted with grenade launchers, thought they had been cornered and fired at everyone in sight.

"When they found out they were being trailed ... they went berserk," he said. "They fired all around, including at a flammable tanker beside a warehouse."

Among those killed were people nearby, including a man and his 7-year-old daughter who were sitting inside their car, were also killed.

Authorities earlier had received a tip that the group was planning to rob the warehouse, and police deployed dozens of police around the area to apprehend the suspects, according to Bataoil.

He said at least three of the gunmen were able to escape in a car they commandeered after firing a grenade at a gatehouse at the entrance to the community, wounding two guards.

Three police officers were also wounded, he said.

Bataoil said investigators believe the assailants belonged to a violent gang whose members have posed as police officers, adding that two of the slain gunmen were found wearing police-style bulletproof vests.

The group has been blamed for the killing of bank teller and two guards of an armored truck that was picking up money from a bank on the University of the Philippines campus last month.

Bataoil said he has ordered an investigation into the deaths of the civilians, particularly the man and his daughter.

Gener,

After losing my husband,I got a partner for 25 years who looked for a younger woman.  After 4 years I realized I´m happy being solo.  I am so pre-occupied with different organizations, I can´t imagine a man waiting for his food to be done or household chores.
I take time now and enjoy this freedom lost.
You are right, you could be happy for whatever choice you made.
