"Hell has no Wrath like a lovers Scorned"

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A woman set fire to her ex-husband's penis as he sat naked watching television and drinking vodka, Moscow police said Wednesday.

Asked if the man would make a full recovery, a police spokeswoman said it was "difficult to predict."

The attack climaxed three years of acrimonious enforced co-habitation. The couple divorced three years ago but continued to share a small flat, something common in Russia where property costs are very high.

"It was monstrously painful," the wounded ex-husband told Tvoi Den newspaper. "I was burning like a torch. I don't know what I did to deserve this."

Wife sets fire to man's penis

05/01/2009 14:05  - (SA)
Sydney - An Australian woman who allegedly set fire to her husband's genitals because she believed he was having an affair appeared in court on a murder charge on Monday.

After the fire spread through the family home, Rajini Narayan, 44, told neighbours she had only wanted to burn her husband's penis "so it belongs to me and no one else", prosecutors said.

"It's just his penis I wanted to burn, I didn't mean this to happen," she was quoted as saying, the Adelaide Advertiser reported.

Prosecutors said Narayan's engineer husband Satish was asleep in their double-storey Adelaide home when his wife doused his genitals with methylated spirit and set them on fire on December 8 last year.

The blaze spread when he jumped out of bed and knocked over the bottle of spirits, causing about A$1m damage to the house and a neighbouring property, the court heard.

Narayan, 47, died in hospital last week.

His widow was remanded in custody until Friday, pending

I never dare to put this topic because the issue is too hot and GMA is not doing anything to clear up the matter, it is her boys!
Bino dela Paz, is being trained by the father because he got the talents comparable to Tiger Woods. Bambee got her scholarship in the USA for being an excellent  golfer herself.
Her blogs is well read and circulated. There are German blogs discussing this case ( I could imagine they are laughing at our judicial system).  Had the incident happened here in Germany, they would be subjected to pressure to resign. Delfin dela Paz is a succesful businessman , but he was subjected to such humilitation , how much more if it is a common tao.

Their negative effects is not yet known, but they are well propagated now thru the aggressive campaign of Monsanto. Third world is the target to alleviate the poverty, the chance of DNA mutation is there.

Lorenzo,

Foreign languages are included in the curriculum so aside from the native language, english is mandatory and 2 or 3 foreign languages like french, spanish or latin are added. Latin is needed as some sort of regulator. If enrollment  in a university is strong, this language will be an important factor to be accepted.  This is also required for those who will study medicine, law, pharmacy and the like.

6. Keep it to a minimum with the silly acronyms. We are just plain crazy about those. Some are unavoidable (it’s a waste of time to say “Subscriber Identity Module card” rather than the omnipresent “SIM card”). For your own sake, don’t use the silly acronym unless you know what it stands for. This acronym insanity permeates business, nongovernmental organizations, cooperatives, civil society, government (“Epiraâ€"what’s that? Such silliness because if they called Republic Act No. 9136 the “Industry Reform Act for Power and Electricity” instead of the “Electric Power Industry Reform Act” we might be calling it “I RAPE”), education, religion, etc.
..................................................................................................
I have observed that here in Germany, speakers tries to avoid acronyms. They are all explained beforehand so as to avoid irritations opposed to the Pinoy counterparts. There are seminars here from Filipino speakers and you will promptly bombarded with this not silly but idiotic acronyms.

Filipinos as english speakers give as an economic advantage and edge abroad. Keep on learning especially the phonetics.

Bible Study / Re: Forgiveness
January 03, 2009, 09:22:30 PM
What is forgiveness?
There's no one definition of forgiveness. But in general, forgiveness is a decision to let go of resentments and thoughts of revenge. Forgiveness is the act of untying yourself from thoughts and feelings that bind you to the offense committed against you. This can reduce the power these feelings otherwise have over you, so that you can a live freer and happier life in the present. Forgiveness can even lead to feelings of understanding, empathy and compassion for the one who hurt you.
What are the benefits of forgiving someone?
Researchers have recently become interested in studying the effects of being unforgiving and being forgiving. Evidence is mounting that holding on to grudges and bitterness results in long-term health problems. Forgiveness, on the other hand, offers numerous benefits, including:
·   Lower blood pressure
·   Stress reduction
·   Less hostility
·   Better anger management skills
·   Lower heart rate
·   Lower risk of alcohol or substance abuse
·   Fewer depression symptoms
·   Fewer anxiety symptoms
·   Reduction in chronic pain
·   More friendships
·   Healthier relationships
·   Greater religious or spiritual well-being
·   Improved psychological well-being
Why do we hold grudges and become resentful and unforgiving?
The people most likely to hurt us are those closest to us â€" our partners, friends, siblings and parents. When we're hurt by someone we love and trust â€" whether it's a lie, betrayal, rejection, abuse or insult â€" it can be extremely difficult to overcome. And even minor offenses can turn into huge conflicts.
When you experience hurt or harm from someone's actions or words, whether this is intended or not, you may begin experiencing negative feelings such as anger, confusion or sadness, especially when it's someone close to you. These feelings may start out small. But if you don't deal with them quickly, they can grow bigger and more powerful. They may even begin to crowd out positive feelings. Grudges filled with resentment, vengeance and hostility take root when you dwell on hurtful events or situations, replaying them in your mind many times.
Soon, you may find yourself swallowed up by your own bitterness or sense of injustice. You may feel trapped and may not see a way out. It's very hard to let go of grudges at this point and instead you may remain resentful and unforgiving.
How do I know it's time to try to embrace forgiveness?
When we hold on to pain, old grudges, bitterness and even hatred, many areas of our lives can suffer. When we're unforgiving, it's we who pay the price over and over. We may bring our anger and bitterness into every relationship and new experience. Our lives may be so wrapped up in the wrong that we can't enjoy the present. Other signs that it may be time to consider forgiveness include:
·   Dwelling on the events surrounding the offense
·   Hearing from others that you have a chip on your shoulder or that you're wallowing in self-pity
·   Being avoided by family and friends because they don't enjoy being around you
·   Having angry outbursts at the smallest perceived slights
·   Often feeling misunderstood
·   Drinking excessively, smoking or using drugs to try to cope with your pain
·   Having symptoms of depression or anxiety
·   Being consumed by a desire for revenge or punishment
·   Automatically thinking the worst about people or situations
·   Regretting the loss of a valued relationship
·   Feeling like your life lacks meaning or purpose
·   Feeling at odds with your religious or spiritual beliefs
The bottom line is that you may often feel miserable in your current life.
How do I reach a state of forgiveness?
Forgiveness is a commitment to a process of change. It can be difficult and it can take time. Everyone moves toward forgiveness a little differently. One step is to recognize the value of forgiveness and its importance in our lives at a given time. Another is to reflect on the facts of the situation, how we've reacted, and how this combination has affected our lives, our health and our well-being. Then, as we are ready, we can actively choose to forgive the one who has offended us. In this way, we move away from our role as a victim and release the control and power the offending person and situation have had in our lives.
Forgiveness also means that we change old patterns of beliefs and actions that are driven by our bitterness. As we let go of grudges, we'll no longer define our lives by how we've been hurt, and we may even find compassion and understanding.
What happens if I can't forgive someone?
Forgiveness can be very challenging. It may be particularly hard to forgive someone who doesn't admit wrong or doesn't speak of their sorrow. Keep in mind that the key benefits of forgiveness are for you. If you find yourself stuck, it may be helpful to take some time to talk with a person you've found to be wise and compassionate, such as a spiritual leader, a mental health provider or an unbiased family member or friend.
It may also be helpful to reflect on times you've hurt others and on those who have forgiven you. As you recall how you felt, it may help you to understand the position of the person who hurt you. It can also be beneficial to pray, use guided meditation or journal. In any case, if the intention to forgive is present, forgiveness will come in its time.

I know the existence of the Lumads, they have inspired an ex-classmate Joey Ayala.  But I hear this Sardinas day for the Lumads for the first time.  If the government of Davao City works hard for the peace & order,  & beautification of this city, they can also do a lot for the Lumads as well, to be fair since they are the true inhabitants.

The Relics of the 3 Holy Magis are housed here!

Cologne Cathedral stands on the site of a 4th century Roman temple, followed by a square church known as the "oldest cathedral" commissioned by Maternus, the first Christian bishop of Cologne. A second church built on the site, the "Old Cathedral," was completed in 818. This burned down on April 30, 1248.

Construction of the present Gothic church began in the 13th century and took, with interruptions, more than 600 years to complete. The new structure was built to house the relics of the Three Magi, taken from Milan by Holy Roman Emperor Fredrick Barbarossa and given to the Archbishop of Cologne, Rainald von Dassel in 1164.

The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph,
and the infant lying in the manger.
When they saw this,
they made known the message
that had been told them about this child.
All who heard it were amazed
by what had been told them by the shepherds.
And Mary kept all these things,
reflecting on them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God
for all they had heard and seen,
just as it had been told to them.

When eight days were completed for his circumcision,
he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel
before he was conceived in the womb.

In our society, where wrong is often considered right, we need a community of truth to help us know what is right and do what is right. Our local church community can encourage us to judge what is right, choose what is right, do what is right, and live right before the God of truth.

Did a former Beverly Hills doctor use the fat he liposuctioned out of patients to fuel his car?

The odd accusation was allegedly made in lawsuits filed by former patients and unearthed by Forbes.com this week.

Unfortunately, if he was in fact fueling his car with fat, the practice was illegal, according to California state health officials.

An investigation has been launched by the California public health department into the now-closed liposuction practice of Craig Alan Bittner, who once claimed on a Web site that he created "lipodiesel" from his patients' fat and used it to power his Ford SUV and his girlfriend's Lincoln Navigator, Forbes.com.

California law apparently forbids the use of human medical waste to power vehicles.

Bittner's practice, Beverly Hills Liposculpture, closed in November.

Several former patients have filed lawsuits against the doctor, claiming he allowed his unlicensed girlfriend and an assistant to perform procedures, causing mistakes that left the patients disfigured, attorney Andrew Besser, who represents three of the former patients, told Forbes.com.

January 1 is World Day of Peace

The theme of Pope Benedict XVI’s 2009 World Day of Peace message is “Fighting Poverty to Build Peace.” In the message, the Holy Father reminds the faithful that our efforts to address poverty reflect our commitment to the dignity of the human person and to building a more just and peaceful world. The full text of the Holy Father's message along with a bulletin insert and bulletin quotes can be found at http://www.usccb.org/sdwp/international/worlddayofpeacewebsite.shtml.

A bit wobbly: the earth's erratic rotation means an extra second has been added to 2008. Photograph: Corbis

Tonight, the countdown to the new year will last just a little bit longer. Boffins have decided that, in order to match astronomical time to atomic time, an additional second is required.

The problem is the earth's shaky rotation: it's not as consistent as the Coordinated Universal Time we get from atomic clocks, and the two need to be re-synchronised.

The alternative, apparently, was to let the two systems run until, in a hundred or so years, a "leap hour" would be needed. But who wants to wait until then?

Perhaps it's not quite as exciting as the extra hour of sleep we all enjoy when the clocks go back. But there are still plenty of possibilities â€" the opportunity for an extra celebratory shot of tequilla, or as our correspondent suggests, a slightly longer snog.

What will you be doing as the clock strikes 23:59:60?

Practical Love

Love one another, Jesus said over and over again, and when you fail to love, forgive and reconcile with one another. Although his teachings are often mistaken as idealistic, they are the most practical.

A ‘lumad’ exodus every holiday season

Filed Under: indigenous people, Festive Events (including Carnivals)

DAVAO CITY, Philippinesâ€"Every night since the first week of December, the public gymnasium of Barangay Mintal in Davao City’s Calinan District smacks of a flee market: One must holler to be heard or force oneself to get through the crowd of more than 5,000 Manobo and Bagobo peoples, mostly children.

Add up the countless sacks of used clothing, second-hand toys and kitchenware, the scene creates an illusion of wide space cramped in a box.

Most of the children suffer from ailments as a result of congestion. So far, a 2-month-old boy and another child have died from severe diarrhea.

Through the years, the episode has been played out. “Lumad” people from the upland villages flock to the city during the Christmas season. They dance and try to sing songs in their native tongue, and be as colorful as their worn-out but heirloom outfitsâ€"in exchange for “rilip” (relief goods).

Stories behind exodus

But they do not always get the goods and sometimes end up being ridiculed by the lowlanders.

The stories behind the exodus, however, confirm the poverty gripping those who first inhabited the city.

They believe that asking or begging would somewhat ease their plight, the reason why they sell root crops or backyard animals for fare in going to town.

“If we will not do this, how can we be able to buy clothes? How do you think we will be able to buy rice? This is our sideline while we wait for the corn to be harvested,” said Marlin Mandaruay, a resident of Bukidnon.

“If we rely only on farming, there is not a slight chance that we will be able to buy basic stuff like clothes, salt, sugar and coffee … We are not choosy. They can even hand us down their rugs and we will gladly accept them and wear them.”

Mandaruay and the other “lumad” inside the gymnasium fall in line to get food rations containing two kilos of rice, two sardines and two noodle packs.

Over the past years, the city government has welcomed the indigenous carolers, feeding and sheltering them. According to the City Social Services and Development Office, at least 8,000 families from the upland villages of Marilog, Calinan, Paquibato and Toril districts to as far as Bukidnon are now in the city. (The other transients occupy gymnasiums in Buhangin and Bankerohan.)

City program

When Mandaruay and her family arrived in Davao City two weeks ago, they saw the harshness of some house owners whom they expected to be accommodating.

“Some people do not give us anything. But there are those who goad us and we would only go away feeling insulted. You know, if they cannot give us anything, it is fine with us. We do not insist. We are only asking for their compassion,” she said.

But while they go around the city and perform for “pinaskuhan” (gifts), other lumad refuse to join them, mortified at the practice that they see alien to their culture and tradition.

Arturo Gumbay and about 40 families from Kamaymana in Marilog are staying put. And so is the family of Mamayok Oribawan, a Pulangion Manobo from Pinamula, Kibawi Bukidnon.

“The indigenous peoples do not celebrate Christmas. It is not in our tradition. What we are doing is we are celebrating with the government because it is the government who really shows us kindness,” said Oribawan.

“They used Christmas as an instrument of begging,” said Pedro Ingay, of Sitio Bulawanon, Barangay Magsaysay, also in Marilog.

Because they are in the city to celebrate the festival with the Christians, Gumbay said they were waiting for the food packs being distributed by the government.

Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, one of the officials actively involved in the city’s “lumad” programs, said the food rationing was meant to discourage the people from going house-to-house.

“We want to erase the practice of begging because they are not supposed to beg. The sad part is when they experience being mocked and derided by the public as they perform dances and songs in exchange for a few coins,” she said.

Show of affection

“It is sad because they are supposed to be the people who are indigenous to Davao City … they are the ones who own Davao and they are up there in the mountains now, living in conditions of poverty,” she said.

A paper prepared by anthropology students Elton Ydel, Dae Angelo and Jessie Varquez Jr. of the University of the Philippines-Mindanao, noted that “the lumad are simply doing a pamarayeg (a show of affection) from the arangan (well-off or rich).”

“Sheer wanderlust and the attraction of this city of lights might have also pushed them to move down for a visit in this welcoming season. There are locations in the uplands facing the central business area of Davao where the city appears like a thousand fireflies at night,” they said.

The paper also pointed how a son of a Matigsalog Datu joined the throng to the city even against the will of his father who said it was “shameful” for their family.

“His only bargain to his datu father is simply that he will not do any panaygon (caroling) but only to wait for gifts from [Davao City] Mayor [Rodrigo] Duterte,” it said.

According to Myfel Paluga, head of the UP-Mindanao’s anthropology department, one of the realities behind the panaygon is the poverty that the “lumad” face in their hinterland villages.

“They’re really poor and if they have lands, these lands have been displaced from their lands by aggressive forms of developments. There is no dignity in begging but some of our lumad sisters and brothers no longer think of this because what’s more important for them is how will they be able to feed their children,” Paluga said.

Mezusah:
On the doorposts of every Jewish Home you will find a Mezuzah. They will be found on the entrances to the house, as well as on every doorframe inside the home. They are small receptacle that holds verses of the Torah (Five Books of Moses or first five books of the Old Testament). On the outside you usually find the word Shaddai hsa ”Almighty” one of the names of God. In Hebrew it also stands for the letters “Shem” Shomer “Daled” Daltot “Yod” Yisra’el, or translated into English “Guardian of Israel’s doors”. The Mezuzah is usually 3” to 4” long but they vary in size.

In every Muzuzah you will find two Scriptures. They are the “Shema” Deut. 6:4-9 and the “Vehaya” Deut. 11:13-21 that expresses God’s assurance to us of compensation that will follow our observance of the Torah’s precepts, and warns of retribution for disobedience to them. In both of these Scriptures we find the commandment (Mitzvob) “And thou shalt write them upon the door-post of thy house and upon thy gates.” What I am about to suggest is sure to get me in hot water with more of my Jewish friends. In the Jewish world because a Rabbi or a Scribe appointed by a Rabbi hand writes the scroll that goes inside the Mezuzah or parchment. But for the Believer who wants to place Mezuzah’s on his door frames declaring God is worshipped in this house. He or She can write the Scriptures in English if you don’t know how to do it in Hebrew and place it inside the Mezuzah. In fact, I can see in the spirit how this would be quiet pleasing to God. Not to mention being more meaningful to the Believer.

There is a traditional blessing in Hebrew for the placing of the Mezuzah on the door frame. But in English it goes like this; (Blessed art Thou, O God King of the Universe, who hath sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to affix a Mezuzah)
(A gift from a German priest who was a former Jew!)

Capricorn subjects have a sense of duty and responsibility toward themselves and others. Capricorns solider on down the road of success. Because they work hard at everything they do, they expect everyone else to be the same. Laziness, apathy, and lack of ambition are alien words to Capricorns.

Others do not generally see you as too enthusiastic but when people get to know you, you do have a side to your nature which is humorous and affectionate. You like to work quietly and effectively without creating too much bother or attention to yourself.

General Topic / Is Realdoll the answer to loneliness?
December 31, 2008, 05:17:38 AM
The RealDoll is a life-size sex doll (also considered a mannequin) manufactured by Abyss Creations in San Marcos, California, and sold worldwide. It has a poseable PVC skeleton with steel joints and silicone flesh, which is arguably the state-of-the-art for life-like human body simulation.
There was a documentary film about this dolls. Two men, separately interviewed are happy and contened having a real life doll at home than a real  woman. Their rationale is that it was difficult for them to live with a woman.
For them life is a lot better.
The feedback of some viewers were diverse. Some says a realdoll can´t  replace the warmth of a kiss, the tender touch and true dialog.
some accepted it as a fetish, but a lesser evil compared to rapists, murders and child molesters.
Are we living in a sick society?

World Daily News / Supercar Zenvo ST1 1.104 horsepower!
December 30, 2008, 01:59:42 AM
With supercar startups coming out of the woodwork, it takes a lot to get our attention. Danish company Zenvo Automotive has done just that with the announcement of its newest project, the ST1. With a mid-mounted turbocharged and supercharged 7.0-liter V8 engine (perhaps from Chevrolet?), the ST1 puts out an incredible 1,104 horsepower and funnels it through a six-speed manual gearbox. Attention officially granted.

The project was started back in 2004, and the first cars are -- optimistically -- planned for delivery in 2009. The first performance tests were completed in October and the rear-wheel-drive ST1 is claimed to have reached 62 mph in what we imagine was a traction-limited 3.2 seconds. The run to 120 was accomplished in just under nine seconds and the top speed is reported to be an electronically limited 233 mph. So a Veyron/Ultimate Aero/GT9/CCX-killer this is not.

The Zenvo ST1 certainly looks unique, with a very geometric appearance, including boomerang-shaped vents adorning the grille, hood and sides. Nothing quite like it is currently rolling on the roads and with just 15 scheduled for production, prospective owners can count on never seeing one in the Whole Foods parking lot.

Health and Food / Staying healthy tips (must read)
December 30, 2008, 12:22:36 AM
from Reader´s Digest
Staying Healthy Tips from Vicks®
Handwashing and Cleaning Tips

• Clean Counts
Get into the habit of cleaning stuff you share with others, such as computer keyboards, phones, remote controls, countertops, etc. And rememberâ€"germs love money as much as we do, so wash your hands after those ATM pit stops.

• Hand-Washing 101
Hand washing is so important that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made official guidelines! They advise people to use soap and warm water while scrubbing vigorously for at least 20 seconds.

• Clean Your Humidifier
During the winter months you should clean your humidifier every three days and change the water every day.

• Only Use Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizers
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that you only use alcohol-based hand sanitizers. The Mayo Clinic takes it a step further by saying that if the sanitizer doesn't contain alcohol, you should avoid it altogether and instead use soap and warm water.

• Know When to Wash Your Hands
To prevent the spread of cold and flu germs, wash your hands at the following times: after petting an animal or using any gym equipment, as well as before and after eating, treating a cut, removing your contacts, and touching doors in high-traffic areas.

• Good Old Soap
Antibacterial soaps are convenient and certainly have their place, but they're no more effective than regular soap at killing germs. So feel free to use good old-fashioned soap and water in addition to hand sanitizer.

Staying Healthy Tips
• Sleep It Off
Not getting enough sleep decreases your immune system's ability to fight off a cold. So try to get a consistent six to eight hours of sleep every night.

• Winter Doesn't Make You Sick
Cold weather doesn't give you a cold. What really causes more sickness in the winter months is the increased amount of time we spend breathing germ-infested air indoors.

• Use Antibiotics Sparingly
Unless you're diagnosed with an infection, avoid using antibiotics for cold or flu symptoms. For one, too-liberal use of antibiotics can give rise to antibiotic-resistant germs. And there's always the risk of unpleasant side effects.

• Fight Off Airplane Germs
Keep germs at bay by washing your hands often (here's where a bottle of hand sanitizer can come in real handy). And be sure to drink lots of water to combat the super-dry pressurized air.

Healthy Expectations Tips
• We Get Well Gradually
Generally speaking, a normal cold or flu lasts around five to seven days. If you don't start to feel better after a week, experts recommend you seek medical attention. Otherwise, over-the-counter medications should work just fine.

• Know Your Sick Days
It's not fair, but women average six bed-sick days a year. Men average four. Regardless, we're not alone in our misery. Every year, Americans report 1 billion colds and miss more than 50 million workdays and 60 million schooldays as a result.

• Get to Know Your Fever
The University of Michigan Health System rates any fever from 100° F to 104° F as beneficial. Fevers ranging from 105° F to 107° F also are considered beneficial, but should be monitored due to higher risks of bacterial infections. Any fever greater than 107° F should be treated by a medical professional.

Sore Throat Tips
• Gargle Salt Water
Not only can gargling salt water soothe and moisturize your throat, but it also can kill harmful bacteria. Just be careful not to swallow.

• Drink Licorice Tea
You might be able to soothe your throat and make coughs more productive with licorice-root tea. Traditionally used in Chinese herbal medicine, licorice root can make it easier to cough up mucus and clear your chest.

Runny Nose/Sneezing Tips
• Sneeze Your Way to Health
A good sneeze can kick irritants, and even some infections, out of your nasal passageways at speeds of 100mph or more. Never try to stop a sneeze! Your nose and your body will thank you.

• Blow Your Nose Correctly
A University of Virginia study found that improper nose blowing can damage your hearing. So be sure to blow both nostrils at the same time. Blowing hard, especially through one nostril, is an absolute no-no.

• There's No Need to Overclean
When kids are sniffling, it's smart to keep common areas clean, but don't work too hard. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease found that rhinoviruses (cold germs) can only survive a maximum of three hours on inanimate objects and human skin.
Head Congestion Tips
• Spice It Up to Clear Your Head
Bring on the cayenne! Eating spicy foods can make your nose run, and that's good. A runny nose helps break up congestion and remove irritants.

• Elevate Your Head to Ease Congestion
To ease head congestion while you sleep, slightly elevate your head by using additional pillows. The increased angle will help drain your head and relieve sinus pressure.

• Drink Water; Ease Sinus Pressure
Keep a bottle of water with you wherever you go and take sips throughout the day. The extra hydration will keep your nose moist and help you breathe and rest easier.

• Love That Shower Steam
Sometimes the best way to care for a stuffed-up, achy child is to simply run a hot bath or shower for him. The warm vapors can loosen mucus, clear his head, and make it easier for him to breathe.

• Relieve Infant Sinus Pressure
Next time your child is all clogged up, sit her in an upright position for 10 to 15 minutes to promote positive drainage (out the nose, instead of down the throat). Sometimes, especially when her cold's not too bad, this can be a simple and effective way to clear her sinuses.

Cough Tips
• Know When to See a Doctor
Rule of thumb: If your phlegm is yellow or green, you should go to the doctor because you probably have an infection.

• Know Your Cough
An acute cough lasts less than three weeks and is usually a symptom of the common cold. Only acute coughs should be self-treated. If you've been coughing longer than seven days, ask your doctor for advice.

• Honey Soothes
For temporary relief of a minor cough, sometimes honey does the trick. A 2007 study by Pennsylvania State University found that buckwheat honey works as a natural cough suppressant. However, honey is not recommended for children younger than 2.

• Avoid All Cigarette Smoke
A 2007 Yale School of Medicine study found that the combination of cigarette smoke (even secondhand) and the flu virus can cause significant, even permanent, lung damage.

• Cough Effectively
A common cold symptom is excessive mucus in the chest and lungs. To remove this mucus effectively, National Jewish Healthâ,,¢ recommends a deep coughing technique. Start by taking a deep breath and holding it for two to three seconds. Then use your stomach muscles to breathe out aggressively. Try to avoid short coughs or throat clearing. If done correctly, it's possible to make your coughs more productive.

Chest Congestion Tips
• Replace Your Toothbrush
If your chest feels congested or if your throat is sore, your toothbrush might be the culprit. Bacteria can form on the bristles and make you sick. So replace your toothbrush at the beginning, middle, and end of an illness.

• Take Your Cold to the Sauna
If it feels like you're coming down with a cold, sit in a sauna for 15 to 20 minutes. Studies have found that the act of sweating helps remove toxins from your body, which could include cold and flu germs.

Fever Tips
• Fluids Fight Fever
When you're fighting a fever, try drinking at least 2 to 3 additional ounces of fluid every hour. Water or non-carbonated sports drinks work best. And remember, even if you're not sweating, you still can get dehydrated, which will weaken your immune system and prolong a fever.

• Feed a Fever
Flu symptoms often include a high fever, which can raise your metabolism by 7 percent for every degree greater than 98.6° F. Your body needs food to fuel your immune system, so if you have a fever, try to eat slightly more to stay on the road to recovery.

• Slight Fever? Don't Panic
A Washington University study found that within a 24-hour cycle, it's normal for your core body temperature to lower or rise from the average 98.6° F. So if the thermometer reads a little high (or low), it doesn't necessarily mean you have a cold or flu virus.

• Exercise with a Cold, but Not the Flu
The National Institutes of Health say that, for the most part, it's OK to exercise even if you have a cold. The simple act of sweating helps expel harmful germs. But don't push yourself too hard, especially if you have a fever.

Aches and Pains Tips
• Relieve Aches and Pains with Olive Oil
Based on research published in Nature magazine, olive oil might be a natural treatment for aches and pains. Researchers found that adding 1.75 ounces of olive oil to your daily diet has anti-inflammatory properties equal to about 10 percent of a normal adult dose of ibuprofen. While this might seem small, over time, the medicinal properties could build up to measurably reduce inflammatory pain.

• Use the Right Pain Reliever
There are two primary pain relievers on the market todayâ€"nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and acetaminophen. NSAIDs, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, relieve pain by reducing inflammation, making them well-suited for muscle aches, while acetaminophen blocks pain signals, which is ideal for general headaches and fever pain.

General Cold Care Tips
• Practice Proper Thermometer Care
Cleaning a glass thermometer with hot or even just warm water can cause an inaccurate reading. It's always best to use cool water.

• Mom Was Right About Chicken Soup
When you have a cold or flu, chicken soup actually can help you get better. A study conducted by the American College of Chest Physicians® shows that chicken soup reduces respiratory inflammation caused by colds and the flu.

• Feeling Sick? Don't Spread It
As a general rule, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that a flu virus is contagious from one day prior to showing symptoms to five days after the first symptoms have developed. If you have a weakened immune system or are older than 65, you could be contagious for more than seven days.

• Drink Chamomile Tea
According to the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, chamomile tea contains plant-based compounds that might fight infections due to colds. So the next time you get a cold, drink a few cups to aid your recovery.

• Decrease Stress
Studies show that elevated levels of stress reduce the number of T cells in your body. You need T cells to keep your immune system strong. So if you're feeling under the weather, take it easy. Doctor's orders!

• The Power of Zinc
A study in The Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy suggests that taking zinc when you have a cold could reduce symptoms by up to half a day.

• Colds Versus the Flu
Colds normally come on slowly and start with a sore throat and sneezing. The flu comes on quickly, and causes muscle soreness, fever, chills, and fatigue.

Mga higala I wish you health for the coming year and beyond ;)
